New Sub Woofer Day at the studio, that is. After picking up a nice used pair of JBL LSR4328P self-tuning monitors in June...

( more HERE) we were planning to pick up a used LSR4312SP subwoofer as well but every advertisement we saw on eBay and Reverb was "local pickup only" and across the continent from us. Instead, we did some shopping and decided on a KRK 12S2. It is a 12" powered sub in a ported enclosure with a 220 watt class D amplifier powering it.

In the trenches - behind the console.

It has arrived and I've connected it up and am testing and aligning the rig. Okay, so it is as "big and dumb as a man can come," to quote Jim Croce. It isn't very photogenic, but it sounds great. As it happens my boss is off at a seminar perfecting his sound system alignment skills. When he gets back, he and I will employ some Fast Fourier Analysis software and get everything phase aligned as well.

So tunes are up and I'm surfing the thump.

Congrats. Interested to hear how that self calibration thing works out.

The self-calibration takes away any lower-mid woofiness due to the room. It works well. My first positioning for the LSR4328P monitors was near the wall to couple and get some bass because we didn't have the sub. The self-adjustment tightened things up and got rid of flabby nodes that resulted.
