Two more "optimized". Is "best" better than "optimized"? Duh...

Hahahahahahaha

"Ridiculously loud and of course sweet." Thus says John

Another gorgeous guitar, Paul!! I love how these woods are looking under finish and the way the bevels blend with the body... And the ironwood! It's all so beautiful. And having been blessed with playing some of John's guitars, I'm sure the tone on this will also be special! I look forward to playing it at some point.

If you do send it to B.I.G, I'm sure it will be popular!

I would love to have John show this guitar at B.I.G., but I would never ask such a thing for fear something would happen to it in shipping etc. I can say this, if John and Paul were to decide between them that it would be advantageous for John to show it, then have at it, but otherwise I think B.I.G. should have no say in the matter, I would not want to be responsible for such a beautiful guitar.

Smile Good point Tom

Responsible? Me???

One full moon Saturday night on stage in Alaska... out of nowhere, and apropos of not much, I announced,
"It is a good thing I wrote the postmaster this morning and told him I'm no longer responsible for myself!"
This elicited a hearty round of applause and another hearty round of beverages!

I'll ask John what he thinks! It does have a really good case, as I scored it a nice Calton (in John's pics) here on AGF... and I will get it on my Heritage account as soon as it arrives here. But first John is going to give it a good work out and shakedown cruise!

Play the good ones and change your strings !

Smile This from John

From John in this mornings email:

"I hate that it wont be under my constant care and I am concerned for its safety. Let's just not do it and that way it won't worry me too much."

So I guess it will not be going to B.I.G.

But any folks coming to San Diego are quite welcome to come visit and play this, and my three other Custom JKs as well. I love AGF visits.

John will be keeping this for a few weeks to fine tune it, as it settles in to being a guitar...

As anxious as I am to play it, I would prefer him to have a leisurely visit with this As there are so many innovations to monitor!

Cheers

Paul

Wow, I just LOVE this guitar. So beautiful. And knowing John’s work, I know it will sound awesome. Congratulations Paul. I am super tempted to have a Spanish cedar guitar built by John, as I have nothing in Juniper and am really curious. Alas, it would have to wait a few years.

Default Parting shots

This is all she wrote. She is heading to her new home in a week and will spend most of the remaining time in the case.

Smile Yay

Heck John, I was hoping you'd be playing this every evening! It might be silly but I was hoping some of your chops would sink into it, for me to steal…

Looks like it still needs a neck heel strap button?

Glad to see it got the K & K pick up installed, and the beautiful lightweight rosewood tuner buttons, as well.

If you have got room to hang it up somewhere, please slap that Tone-Rite I sent you on it and I bet it wakes up FAST!

Please keep it till you are pretty sure it's going to behave ! Haha

Egads, it looks BEAUTIFUL to me!!!

Cheers

Paul

what a beautiful guitar!!! Congratulations!

Kira (the golden retriever) and I have been talking with Paul and Cindy about a visit to see them in the next week or two. Might have to wait until after this beauty arrives. I've loved playing the John Kinnaird guitars that Paul has stashed in the mountains of San Diego. And this one looks like she'll fit right in! They're quite special instruments....

So, there may be tree geeks who are interested as I was to learn what Spanish Cedar is. I had always thought it must be from Spain, and a Juniper (or Cypress) of some kind. It is neither, apparently! First of all, it is from Latin America, second it has no relation to cedars/junipers/cypress; it is much more closely related to mahogany, as both are in the Meliaceae family. The Latin name is Cedrela odorata. Maybe you all knew this, but I did not. No wonder this beautiful set of wood looks so much like mahogany.

Thanks Beth
You should consider going to Texas in your wanderings. The hill country is really pretty in the spring and you would enjoy BIG.
I'm confident of this though I have experienced neither. I think you would also enjoy Austin.

I'm a tree geek Jamie and I find your research most interesting. I always thought SC was a cedar of some kind. It is softer than mahogany and lighter too. It comes by that name odorata honestly.

I admire your willingness to experiment with non traditional woods on your builds.

John
