Great news for Taylor solidbody owners (bridge content)
Having just bought the last brand new Taylor solidbody electric I was motivated to research support options, paticularly about the aluminum bridge, which can be prone to cracking.
AGF-er Steve DeRosa has a lot of experience and expertise on this topic and had posted some compelling info. At the time he had (a third?) broken bridge, he contacted Taylor and got the last one they had. At that time, there was no further hope for anymore bridges if someone cracked one in the future. I was looking for a broken/damaged SB as a parts donor and also emailed a couple contacts at Taylor asking if I can scrounge up a return/prototype/blemish bridge, just as a spare. Here was the reply I got last night Quote:
It looks like they changed their approach and stock these replacement parts again. They didn't before and that was a worry, but rest easy SB-owners, the bridge is supported now.

That's good to know. I'd closed my eyes to Taylor SBs for that reason.

Me too. It's half the reason I sold off my first SB

Good to see they're back in the house - I'll be ordering a couple next week, just in case they decide to discontinue them again...

Fazool, my SB2 has the vibrato bridge. Do you think they have the same bridge plate issue? -- Darwin
Edit, I just called Taylor support and the person, Thomas, didn't seem to know but thought the bridgeplate for vibrato tailpiece was different. He said they do not stock parts and really didn't have any more information.

another shout out to Taylor
So good news.
Yes I can confirm these are truly available. Yes I can confirm I was sorely disappointed and more than a little angry with a problem I had but yes I can affirm that Taylor went out of there way to make things right.

Glad it worked out Fazool. Are these new stoptails made from the same material?
As for my earlier question about my SB2 with the trem assy, I did remove the backplate and look at the bridge assembly. It is different and appears to be quite substantial having the trem block mounted to it which should give additional strength. This assembly is adjustable just like a Fender trem other than the saddle height adjustments are made from the bottom. It has eased my mind as parts are probably difficult to come by. I really love this guitar.-- Darwin

Its too bad these guitars are not made anymore. They were really well made guitars that never made it. |

I know I am coming a little late to this party but I just found my stop tail cracked on an SB1-S and figured I would pass along my findings. The problem is that people do not understand the adjustment process. Of the 3 larger screws that adjust the height of the stop tail only the two outer screws at the front of the bridge are for adjusting the height. The center screw is just to stabilize the stop tail and keep it level. you cannot crank down on the center screw or you will snap the bridge under the D string.
