There is no need to have a file for every string gauge. You can rock and tilt the file from side to side to get a bigger slot. And there is no need--actually it is undesirable because the string will bind--to cut the slots to the exact diameters of the strings; they should be a few thousandths over.
What does matter, IMO is to get the bottom of the slot to a good approximation of a semicircle, and many of the cheap files are not cut to an accurate semicircle on their edges.

The standard StuMac nut files really are not very good. They bind if you cut below the depth of the small cutting surface, which is a pain. And then to punish you they have sharp squared off ends designed to gouge your headstock as they unstick. It would have cost StuMac nothing really to round off those corners.
Look elsewhere!
