Speaking of humidity and lack thereof . . .
So I live near Chicago in a 100-year-old house with steam heat.
In the summertime, what with the leakiness of this old house, no amount of air conditioning (window ACs) can keep the humidity reasonable inside. In the wintertime, what with the steam heat, no amount of humidifying (room-size humidifiers as well as damp-its inside tone holes) can keep the dryness reasonable inside. Now I read that torrefaction can keep a guitar from suffering too much under such ridiculous conditions. Is that right? Anything else I should look for? (Whatever else one might say about the midwest, one could never say we have a boring climate.)
