How does Ryan Bingham do this?
Is Ryan just strumming most of the time or is he strumming and picking out notes so fast I just can't see it? Camera work is good evidently my eyes aren't...

Just strumming. His left hand is doing the note work. Highly effective in solo performances.

He's using hammer on / pull off technique frequently.

It's kind of a cross-picking thing. A lot of the solo Irish acoustic guitarists I see do a lot of that at a little higher level.
Nice tune, thanks for posting. I'm going to have to revisit my RB tunes. |

Strumming cowboy chords and inserting hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Can anyone tell me the strumming patterns he is using?
Here is another link to his hands and it sounds nice too ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywqi...CzFAG&index=41

Actually, pretty simple stuff done effectively and as mentioned, great for solo work. Just playing as he feels it.

Kind of reminds me of Neil Young a little.
Watch him play Needle and the Damage Done live. He does a constant DUDU strumming but also hits individual notes. And its pretty clean sounding. Its like he does these big down up strums but only hits one note at a time. That's not exactly what Ryan is doing, but it put me in the mindset of Neil Young's playing. |
