Default The eternal question: Does using a capo mean you are a lesser player?

This issue comes up with some regularity. Does using a capo mean you do so only because you do not have the skills to not have to use it. Well, not according to Glen Cambell.

I came accros this Later With Bob Costas interview with Glen Cambell on YouTube. Go to 3:30 on the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZASiL58z80A&t=491s

Or, watch the whole interview. For my money Later with Bob Costas was the best talk show ever.

Is that actually a thing? I don't think I've ever heard anyone claim that using a capo makes you a lesser player. If I did I'd probably just laugh because that's ridiculous.

I am a lesser player. I use a capo. The two have nothing to do with each other.

Ridiculous!

... well I guess the same could be said of players who have to use both hands.

I don’t need a capo to know I’m a lesser player.

OK - yeah it's actually a thing and resurfaces periodically every time someone masters the F chord and laughs at everyone who is still using "cowboy" chords. I used to engage these guys but eventually realized that one day they will learn the lunacy of this position. In the meantime, let them bask in their newfound prowess and superiority.

We used to have one guy here who expressed disdain for capo use but has been quiet lately. I guess his light went on.

Default Speaking of eternity

Does posting what you already know to be an eternal question make you a lesser poster?

We must be running out of things to talk about!

I'm constantly amazed to go to my various guitar boards to hang out and share information and observations with virtual friends only to find out that guitar is apparently a competitive sport and that:
