Almost 8 years ago to the day, my first acoustic guitar was a Takamine G3something ($300). A friend who had been playing for years thought it would be a good starter guitar for me. Talk about a gateway drug..........

1936 Martin 0-17 inherited from an uncle who passed away in 1960 when I was 14 - he showed me my first three chords about a month before leaving us. He was in the U.S. Navy during WW II and carried it on the ship throughout the Mediterranean in a sea bag. My grandmother bought it for him on time from a music store in Enid, OK for $57. I kept it until about 10 years ago but sold it due to it needing more work than I could afford to put in it. Took the money and bought a real nice D18v that I wish I still had. It's always been Martins for me.

Mine was an old Kay. I paid the cousin of a friend $40 for it in the late '70's.

It was either lost or stolen a few years later. After that I stopped playing for several decades......

I have no idea if it was any good or not, but I'd love to have it back!

My Brother was 7 years older - he begged my parents to buy him a guitar and he took 3 lessons and quit. The guitar was the typical cherryburst Stella by Harmony (circa about '68 or so)

By the time I decided I wanted to mess with it in about '74, it had been left outside and bounced around the house a lot without a case. Action at the 12th was probably 1/2"

When Mom and Dad realized I wasn't going to give up, they took me to Marshall Music in Lansing and bought me a 149.00 Aspen Strat copy (all natural) A few months later I was happy to get a 99.00 Applause - the one with the one piece aluminum fingerboard and frets - from Elderly.

And here I am 45 years later

Mine was a 3/4 size classical nylon string guitar. I got it when I was 5 years old as a gift from my grandpa. I don't have the guitar anymore, but I wish I did...

A Guild semi-hollow body electric. Can't remember the model # but it was a great guitar to learn on.

A Capitol, purchased with S&H Green Stamps.

Long gone, but not forgotten.

Vividly! It was a Goya M-26 and it set me back $75. I was working a summer job for a market gardener and had to pay for it in installments. This was in 1960. I had learned my first 3 or 4 chords and the Carter's Scratch on my brother's Hofner arch top. These were both fine instruments and I didn't have to go through the experience described by Mark Stone.
Neither instrument is still around, but I did manage to find another 1958 Goya M-26.

A 1958 Goya M-26, just like my first guitar.

This is me playing a Hofner arch top just like the one my brother had. This is at The Hank To Hendrix Guitar Shop in Peterborough. Unfortunately it was in for repairs and not for sale.

Nice inlays on the fretboard. Some of those early Silvertones were pretty sweet! I still have one and love it.

My first guitar was an Encore classical guitar. Was bought as a set , costed like 30$ for new. Horrible guitar. Most horrible.

Was bough to little me by my mom. She thought that it was only a phase that i went through.

I wish those guitars were not sold at all.

It was around 1979 when my Dad bought me a cheap “Congress” made in China guitar. I don’t think you have that in the US. It served me well. Can’t remember what happened to it.

If I remember correctly it was a Harmony dread made in China. It would have been around 1987 or 1988 maybe?
