Default Another great one…

Hey Mark

I am excited to see and hear how this project turns out.
I remember purchasing your first Pina and how amazed I was with its fit n finish. However great the eye candy was, its tone, projection, and voice was even more remarkable. It spurred me on to purchase a second Pina, the Bacon Padauk.

These are THE best sound parlor guitars ever. No plunking sound, just pure guitar.

So, I can imagine how this Dryad will amaze. Torrefied Sitka is a proven and much underrated top. Amazon Rosewood is also less known but as good as or better than the higher priced rosewoods. After all, Amazon RW was used for marimba bars.

I am thinking of a road trip to your end of the woods just to experience the finished product?

Talk soon
Alan

So has this build been spoken for yet in terms of a potential buyer?

Thanks Alan,
The Dryad will certainly be on the other side of the spectrum for the models I make!
I should have the guitar up and running in June and my studio should really be in good finished shape. It would be great to have make a visit!

I am building this as a spec guitar and it will be available for sale. Thanks for asking!

Mark, are you doing any fretboard inlays?

I’ve been thinking about those edge fret markers I’ve been doing so many of lately but, I’m not settled on what material to use. I would do the maple purfling around them because that would show up well and the fretboard binding will have the same maple purfling. I don’t think the red Jasper would show up well against the Desert Ironwood fretboard. Maybe I’ll do the centers in Black Ebony and let the contrast with the maple purfling make it visible. After all we’re going with understated here. I’ll have to mock some up and see what they look like.

So, yeah, the short answer is, I’m thinking about it

The jasper would show up if there were a very light-colored and thin boarder around it. Adds another step however.

Thanks! Your right that could work. I'll mock up a red Jasper one up and see how it does.

Default Bending Sides

When I'm making a new model there is a little more work to do before bending the sides. I make the body mold and various parts for that and the bending templates. Once that's set I'm ready to go. You can see the first side steaming and just about ready for the bend:

Default Constructing the sides

With the sides bent it is the end black, heel block and cut away wedge that join them all together:

Once the sides are all joined up I glue the support for the arm bevel:

I then glue an the insert into the heel block which will eventually become the cutaway strap button bevel:

Here is a picture of what that strap button bevel looks like when finished. I'm showing this because I'm the only one that does these:

The idea here is to get the strap button out of the way of your fret hand. I find a heel mounted strap buttons particularly get in the way with cutaways. My bevel hides it in the hollow of your palm.
