Default Enhance ES With Quality Cable

This is in response to some posts about bad experiences with ES/inferior cables.

Before worrying about whether or not you have a problem with the ES itself, be sure to a) check your cable for a problem and b) buy the best quality cable you can afford.

As you all know, every component of your amplification system is important. If you want a good source for quality cables (TRS to TRS, TRS to XLR, etc.) check out www.lordvalve.com. He specializes in tubes and other amp components, but he'll also build any cable you want, using quality cable like Canare and Belden. You can also buy quality like Mogami at musiciansfriend.com. Jasper4864 just bought a Mogami cable that made an obvious difference in his live sound. I just ordered a couple custom cables from lordvalve.

You'll notice the difference in sound and you'll have a cable that will last a long, long time. (The XLR/TRS cable that comes with each Taylor does not match the quality of the Expression System.) Buy the best you can!

Ditto.

My cable that came with the guitar was noisy, so I replaced it with a Monster Cable TRS to XLR I got a GC. It was expensive, but it should last.

Default Speaking of cables

I was at the Chet Atkins Appreciation convention in Nashville this week and some guy had a low capacitance cable that cost around 900.00. Another guy seen it and had one express shipped to him there.

The cable looked like it was about 5/8th to 3/4 inch thick.
Must have a lot of isulation between the center conductor and ground braid.
I know nothing about it. I just over heard them talking about it.

I don't need one, but would like to know more about it.

$900 for a cable?! Wow, that is pretty expensive! I don't know if I could justify that one. It would have to make a pretty amazing difference for that much scratch.

$900.00........ It must also be able, and of the size, to pump sustenance, water, (or beer) fresh air, and guitar polish directly to me... And, oh yeah, it must also function as a place to sit, and have a pilots relief tube built in.....

Haven't heard of such cable ... or cost. The cables I mentioned in the original post (Canare, Beldern) are considered industry standards for the studio and other applications. Would love to hear more about that transatlantic cable though!

I'm paying about $34 for the Belden TRS/TRS from Lordvalve and another $37 for a custom-built Y cable that will handle the magnetic pickup/piezo signal coming from my Strat.

Default expensive cables

Here is one that I found with a quick search.

275.00 per meter.

Don't know if this is the same brand or not.

Too much for me, for sure.

The only alternate cable I've found is a 15 foot Mogami from Musicians Friend for $24.99 - can't find anything longer than that. Is this cable significantly better than the Taylor-supplied cable?

I believe you are discussing a cable sold by www.fineguitarconsultants.com and the person there is Richard Glick. I was having problems demoing the amps until I started bringing my own cables with me (and yes that means in the guitar stores too!) I currently use Kordex and have found them to be reliable and they great performance ratings.

I gave 28.00 for a planet waves cable. I got the trs to trs cable. Played it to Ultransound, fender, roland amps. It sounds good.
It is much better quality than the one that came with the
guitar from Taylor. Thought I paid a lot till I saw the $900 dollar price tag.

MY guitar sounded best through the Ultrasound.

Need longer (or any length) quality cables? Know how to solder?
Do what I just recently did and make your own from star quad Canare cable and quality Neutrik jacks. I just made 5 15 ft. balanced cables for $58 ($11.60 ea.) These used 1/4" TRS and XLR jacks. Your friends will love you! Give these guys (who I don't work for BTW) a call. http://www.markertek.com/

antsdmb -

I got my cable at Guitar Center. However, they arelocated in the Pro Audio section with the PA systems and mixing consoles. The guys at the guitar accesory counter may not know what you are talking about. I paid $35 for a 4m TRS to XLR cable.
