Best way to secure a guitar strap? (no straplocks)
I have a new Epiphone DR-500MCE which is a fantastic guitar
I would hate to have it fall off (like my strat plus that fell off during a rehearsal and hit the sharp peice of metal on my fuzz box because the volume knob was missing, murphy's law at work) So I put strap locks on all my guitars. This guitar has an input in the back peg so a regular strap won't fit. I had to enlarge the hole in the guitar strap. It fits but I like too move around and don't want another repeat of my strat occurrence. It would seem to me that if I just wound a tight piece of plastic coated wire around the peg on top of the strap that it will secure it. Anyone have any other ideas? I don't really like straplocks either because they stick out so much. Suggestions???? |

I've heard of some people have good luck with bread bag closure clips, if you can find one that fits your end pin jack. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google "kwik lok."

Dave's first suggestion only works if you dont' want to plug in!
I've got a tapastring on the endpin of my Taylor, and it's solid - too solid, in that I can't get it off easily, the strap is always on my guitar now, have to fold it in place over the strings when I put it in the case. There's only one tapastring per 'kit', so if you want to ensure lock on the other pin, you'll need 2. I don't trust myself to drill into this guitar (the way I did with my tele) to put real straploks in it, but when/if I ever take it to a store for a setup, I'll have them install them, with the end one just behind the jack pin.

I've been using these for a couple years now and love em!
No more trying to enlarge the hole on the strap.

The washers from Grolsch beer bottles should do the trick.

Similar to the Grolsch bottles, your local hardware store should have an assortment of rubber washers in various sizes & thicknesses. They work well (so far).

Thanks but there barely seems to be enough space to place a strap with very thin ends....I had to use a cheap Ernie Ball one that has very thin attaching leather ends...but I don't feel secure.
The pickup peg and even the other are very close to the guitar. I should have one swapped when I had the guitar set up. But then there is the pu end which there is even less room. I'll try to squeeze one on. I guess if it dosen't work I'll have a beer. I don't like beer though. Too bad I can't get vodka with one of those things A company Brightvision and Fender makes rubber gaskets just like those from the beer bottle. Might even work better. But I need a good strap with very thin ends. I don't like the idea of attaching another leather string type of thing and then attaching the strap to that. But I may have to. Anyone ever use a Magstrap? They only sell through Amazon and have no support number. |

D'Addario / Planet Waves sells these:
They also sell these locking straps: http://www.zzounds.com/item--PTWPWSP...i-0xoC_zPw_wcB Nothing fancy as straps go. Not a rhinestone as far as the eye can see. |

Tapastring looks intriguing and it's only ten bucks, but looking at the pics it seems like 2 layers of tapastring + retaining clip would be fairly thick. How does the thickness of the tapastring compare to the thickness of a strap?

Basically, most suggestions are variants on strap locks. why not just use a strap lock ?

I make my own. I have done for years and I've never had one fail. Cut a 1" to 1 1//2" disk out of an empty shampoo bottle. Drill a hole in the centre that matches the narrowest part of the strap button. Make a single cut from the outside to the hole. Put this on after the strap and make sure the slot in the plastic is well away from the slot in the strap. 180% is ideal. The shampoo bottle plastic should be flexible enough but also robust enough to do the job.

you could always tie a "sailor knot" on a shoelace, like this

I have at least one of these on every guitar I own. For the Taylors I use a Grolsch red rubber ring on the end pin end. I've have a pair on my 5013 for most of the nineteen years we've been together. I've never dropped one when using them. I had the elliptical buttons on one guitar, and it still slipped the strap on occasion, but rarely. I can't opine on the Tapastring, but it looks like it would be very secure also. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
