but you also have a kostal on order will be neat to hear a comparison again when you get it!

what greenfield did you play when playing side by side. what year, size, and woods? same for the other guitar. too many variables

You are correct I am anticipating a Kostal sometime next year.

The story re my selection of a Greenfield in a nutshell goes like this;

I called into TAMCO (UK) with my Matsuda for a fret dress. Trevor Moyle (the owner) invited me to try the Sitka/Wenge Modified D that he had in from Somogyi. It was good, so good that I went for a walk around the block with my wife to discuss whether we could afford it.
When we went back in, still not committed one way or the other, Trevor put a Greenfield G3 Lutz/Sapele (that he had just taken delivery of from Micheal G.)in my hands - to say I was blown away is an understatement. Easy decision for me. Both guitars were/are late 2010 builds.
If you haven't tried a recent Greenfield build I urge you to do so.

Back on topic, I am hoping that Jason will build me a guitar which is as equally breathtaking to me as yours is to you.

Cheers
Vic

isn't the Wenge Somogyi smaller than his normal Mod-D?

I thought the only Wenge guitars he built were his studio: http://www.esomogyi.com/blog.html#studioupdate

but I see now from his list, people can get Wenge! http://www.esomogyi.com/prices.html

I guess I was mistaken!

Hi Vic,
Yes that would be nice,i am in Water Orton not too far,i have to add though that the Somogyi did not disappoint,in fact quite the opposite it was more than i expected it to be,the depth of bass was remarkable,i just remember your guitar as having a voice that was just my cup of tea, very crisp and responsive with lots going on in the midrange and a shimmering background to it all, absolutely beautiful.

PS Eric your guitar looks amazing, its a pity that Brazilian ones are unlikely to hit these shores.

All the best Tony

Why is the volute so huge Eric?

I asked Michael about his, which is pretty much identical, and he said it was because he applied a lot of leverage with his thumb up there for certain effects - do you do the same?

cheers,
Steve

steve, its not as big as it looks. but it sure is comfortable! I think this is Jason's standard? I've always liked a curved volute to stick out a little to give a little extra leverage and also to kind of act like a bumper stopping your fretting hand.

so I've had the guitar for one month and one week.

to me, I feel as though the guitar has opened up a lot already, but it scares me to think that its only 5 weeks old. it will just get better

I won't go on in describing tone or whatnot because it all reads the same online

but if anyone is in VA and wants to try it out, lets make it happen!

over the past 10 years I've played hundreds of handmade guitars from (in no particular order) Olsons, Traugotts, Somogyis, Matsudas, Krauts, Ryans, Wingerts, Omega, Baranik, Bashkin, Osthoffs, McKnights, Cornerstones, Petros, Charis, Langejans, Claxtons, Beneteau, Ebata, Maingard, Manzer, Berkowitz, Simon Fay, Greenfield, Laskin, Sexauer, Vines, White, the list goes on and on......including small shop like huss and dalton, santa cruz, collings, goodall, froggy bottom, bourgeois, etc......

so far, this guitar is the finest I've played.

I'll try to take an updated video on how the guitar continues to open up.

and the honeymoon continues....
