Yes ukes are self multiplying items........at least that is how I think I ended up with so many. They are small, fun, portable and as others have said easy to sing along with. Whats not to like. The more the merrier I say.

Welcome to the 1920's--The next big thing will be an overriding interest in Egyptology--Perhaps swallowing goldfish? I remember my Grandma telling me about the Ukulele and Parlor guitar craze of the times past. Not a bad thing at all.

My grand-daughter is 3 years old today, and I spent ages agonizing over whether I should buy her a semi-decent uke (which would have been around the 100+GBP mark,) or a real cheapie for just over 20GBP.

In the end, I am ashamed to say, I went for the cheapie, but I am assuaging my conscience by promising myself that I will build her a proper uke for her 4th birthday.

I did however set up the cheapie to make it at least playable.

My wife and I were in a shop trying out ukes last week and I got a bigger grin p!aying the Makala Dolphins than I did playing the Kamakas. They sound surprisingly nice and play pretty easily as well..she ended up with tge dark blue one

ricfreak - That is one beautiful collection. As they say, the bigger or older the boys, the bigger, or more toys.

I have been thinking, maybe I should have titled this thread something like - the four string thingy bit me. I started in September 2017 with a Baritone Ukulele and in May I got a Tenor Ukulele, and now, still in my first year I am foaming at the mouth for a short scale tenor guitar. When the wife promises not to kill me I think I will buy one. I have been testing the water lately in conversation.

I also have found myself looking at Mandolin's and Mandola's. But not sure with an injuried hand and thumb that I would be able to fret double rows of metal strings. They sure do sound nice.

As Scah-mo said, What a Wonderful World

Not sure if that 8 string is a Tenor or not, however, it is the first ukulele I noticed when I saw the photo. What size and make is it? I assume 8 strings are all nylon, not metal strings. I feel that bug bitting me again.

The 8 string is a Kanile'a concert size.
The low G is the only one which is wound. The rest are nylons with ball ends.

Yes , they are highly addictive.

Do the eight string ukuleles, regardless of size, have nylon strings or metal?

Watch out, there is a strange bug going around called Guitalele. I got bit by one yesterday and ordered a Yahama GL1. We'll see how bad the infection is in a few days. The sting is not too bad. Only 3090 Baht, about $100. Strange, and wife did not even get upset.
