CA Cargo String gauge?
Hello All -
I have a CA Cargo and am wondering what string gauge is generally used. I recently had is set up, and the playability is much better, but the unwound strings sound like crap when I dig in at all. Maybe the string is making more noise than the top? Maybe a heavier gauge would correct that? In any event, it is easy enough to change the strings and find out, but thought I'd get some opinions here in case I am missing something and should go in a different direction. Or maybe this is just the way these Cargo's behave... I generally play with a pick, strumming, bus, country blues, etc. Thanks, John

I’ve owned an ‘08 Cargo since new and I believe it originally came with light gauge strings, though I don’t recall the brand. Regardless, I’ve always used Elixir Nanos PB lights and quite like the tone. I seem to recall that I tried a medium gauge set once some time ago, but immediately returned to lights.

I don't recall what strings my Cargos arrived with, but I use D'Addario EJ-16 (light gauge) on mine. I play bare flesh fingerstyle, so I would not experience the potential problems associated with hard strumming on my setup.

Fwiw, I’ll add that I’m a bare finger picker (use all fingers as required).
