Choosing a parlor
Wondering who here has experience with the new Gibson Lg2 (50s original/ Gibson L00 original or standard) I can never find a side by side contrast on youtube. Also if anyone can tell me about the sonic difference between the new lg2 50s vs the old lg2 american eagle it would be much appreciated!
Finally if anyone wants to weigh in on the similarly priced offerings from waterloo and which they would choose to compliment either lg2 or l00 that would be cool to hear opinions on that. Thanks!! Let the comment wars commence!! In a nutshell I'd love to learn ragtime and also do a bit of light strumming, don't really need a jack of all trades just something that'll sound old timey n be fun to play. I do jam a bit of zeppelin n acdc occasionally but I don't wail on my guitar pete townshend style haha!! I know tommy emmanuel plays the crap out of his small Guitar,.. does make me curious if any of those gibsons or Waterloos would hold up to that kind of abuse!! Cheers! |

I fear I will not help that much, but will report my short experience anyway.
I once had a Larrivee p-03R : Loved it but sold because I would loose my spatial fret marks as I rarely look at the neck while I play. Got a 1965 Lg-0 : Loved that string sounding woodbox but needed 1 3/4" nut width... Currently own an Alvarez AP-66 all Mahogany : love it !!! Note : AP-70 is Sitka-Mahogany. I bought this one to slide in Open G... Have a lovely Gibson L-1 1928 Blues Tribute : Its 1,725" nut width make it less attractive to me. I would sell soon... (I so not ship during the cold season up here). ***Brought it to the music stored where I played it back to back with a Waterloo WL-14 : The differences were too subtle to drew the almost three grans (CAD) to buy. Finally, I absolutely love my great Gibson L-00 TV (?2016 model) I was blessed to find. I guess the standard L-00 would also please me. I hope it helps a bit.

Thanks for the input so far!! I haven't had a chance to play the waterloo yet, but it's looking like the winner. I love the L1 and can't justify the price. I wish waterloo made a 12 fret spruce and mahogany, I know they have the all mahogany one. And the one with maple, or cherry.

The WL-K is Waterloo's 12 fret Sitka / Hog offering.
If I were to get a Waterloo, that would be the one for me.
