Default Taylor pickguard

Hi Guys, just bought a 614ce, really not liking the wood pickguard, and looking to replace with either Black or Tortoise celluloid.

Does anyone know if the baby/GSmini pickguard is the same size as the regular, as these seem available online.

Don't think Taylor will sell me one as not right for my guitar, so does anyone know where I can get (I'm in the UK) prefer OEM but will settle for non.

Thanks

Welcome to AGF. I think that Taylor will sell you any pickguard they stock. They have some for sale that are not shown on their website. Give them a call. In lieu of that, here's a tortoise Taylor pickguard for a GA/GA for $8.99 from Alto Music https://www.altomusic.com/taylor-pic...ild_index=1611 . Obviously I don't know how shipping the UK will affect price...

My Taylor 818e Grand Concert came with a diagonally striped rosewood pickguard and I love it. Combined with the streaked ebony fretboard, it has a very unique look and I wouldn't trade it for anything else, either cosmetic-wise or sound-wise.

But of course, that's just my choice.

Hi Joker - Welcome to the AGF and a great first post.

I'm guessing you already know this but after removing your pickguard there may be a tanline. If that's the case, you wouldn't want a smaller pickguard installed. As far as tortoise vs black, I like the tortoise pickguards better on Taylors.

How long have you had the 614ce? The wood pickguard looks great but you might need time to appreciate it.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I've had it about a month now, and just find the pick guard looks weird to my eye.

Link above says on order

those wood pickguards are expensive, I'm thinking around $50 in the past, and you are right in that used too, not sure now, but Taylor would not sell these rosewood pickguards to you unless you proved ownership of such guitar-they may have changed that. the other plastic guards you can order from their website or a dealer can get you one.

try to be very patient and careful removing that guard. use dental floss and naptha and you can get it off-they do break very very easy. if you get it off, you will have it to replace if you desire(or sell it). get some 3M double adhesive and it works great-stewmac sells it and they ship worldwide.

lots of after market folks can cut you a pickguard of your color/style choice, look around or someone here will post you some links.

good luck

These Taylor wood pickguards are gorgeous! Replacing it with a more simple plastic one would take some of your guitar charm! Keep it!

your guitar looks awesome, I really like the aesthetic on that model immensely.

how's it sound to you?
this model can have a good solid bass and just really good overall balance.

There was someone the other day who was removing his tortoise shell pick guard off his Taylor and bought a wood one to put in its place. Too bad the timing was off, you could have traded.

Your guitar is absolutely gorgeous and that wooden pickguard is incredible and the perfect accent. I say keep it on!

Agreed. It’s like an organic take on the classic Gibson 30s firestripe pickguards. It also pairs well with the dark-stained striped/flamed maple on the back/sides.

Default Particularly pretty 614...

...and the pick guard goes so well with the general aesthetic. I really like the look of Taylor’s wooden pick guards. The black and tortoise plastic versions look cheap in comparison.

So I’m firmly in the leave it on camp.

My first decent guitar so nothing really to compare it to, but does have that bass thump, and it's blooming gorgeous, apart from that pg

Of course, a wooden pick guard would be a matter of personal taste - but I shore do love the Rosewood one on the 814ce.
