Thanks for the stories, it’s really helped.

I’ll be sure to keep cases on the floor from now on and when she’s next in for a setup tweak perhaps see if there’s anything that can be done to full the “battle scar” a bit.

Case latches are notorious for creating dents and dings. I've had the lid fall while I was wiping a guitar down after playing. That won't happen again. Anyway...there are only two kinds of guitars: Those that have dents and dings...and those that will. The first one is the worst (as has been said).

well if those helped this should cure you immediately.

Chalk it up to, "this could have been worse"

This is what an SM58 can do to a Cedar top'd Taylor Grand Symphony.

This photo was sent to Taylor to see if they could fix it. (They could, and they did)

Did you take 27 eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles. And arrows?

Anyone want to share a similar story to help cheer me up for being so stupidly careless T.T
A good repairman can make that disappear. Even you could make it less obvious if you can find nail polish closely matching that color.

Or just consider it the first step in beginning to look vintage. Beautiful guitar BTW.

Well, you got that over with pretty fast. Now you don't have to worry about the first ding. It gets easier after this one. Ask us how we know.

Sorry this happened, the upside is this will not impact the structural integrity of the instrument, nor the sound. I'd leave it be and not try to fix it.

Cue Cat Stevens "The first cut is the deepest" LOL

My 40-year old Guild was near-mint when I bought it 20 years ago, except for one big nasty case tooth bite on the top.

I don't even see it anymore. I love that guitar so much I wouldn't care if it had a bullet hole through it.

And it's no longer near-mint due to good old-fashioned play wear.

Suffered that once too (Taylor 510).
That's why I do not buy brand new anymore... as far as I can...

There is even worse though :
A bump on your brand new car and nobody around to get apologies from !

Within a couple of months of getting my D17M, I managed to drop a heavy tambourine with a drum kit screw fitting attached on it from a height. I just managed to deflect it to prevent a full impact, and was left with a couple of surface dings. No doubt it would have gone through the top if I hadn't got something on it.

I play my guitars in pubs/bars and anywhere else, and I leave them out on stands in different rooms in the house. It's simply an unavoidable fact that if you do this they'll pick up some marks. I absolutely care 0% about cosmetic dings.

Dab it with a black sharpie and it will be invisible to everyone except you

Really? That's the excuse to not put in the case. Back when I was a dumb kid I would always leave my guitars out. Electric as well as acoustic. When my 3 year old daughter knocked my Guild over and broke the headstock. That's when I learned to keep acoustics in their cases. Electrics, when I decided I didn't like rusty hardware.
Also I don't like to pick up my guitar, and temp and humidity changes in the atmosphere, have knocked the truss rod and intonation out of whack.
My Dad, a player since before I was born told me. He drug a Gibson ES 125
all over the world when he was in the Air Force. Never had a case. and never had a problem.
That's, not altogether true. As I have done all the repairs on that guitar to keep it in playing shape. He still hangs it on the wall in a room that gets hot 105 and 0 humidity in the summer,0 and cold 25 in the winter.

By all means, Leave 'em out. If you can't tell how much the weather affects it. Chances are they were never really set up to begin with.

Well... I know how you feel, but eventually you'll get over it (and probably not even notice after a while). Just consider, dings and scratches never stopped this guy.

The ultimate irony is the case-induced ding.

As far as I'm concerned, the best thing about gig bags is they don't come with latches.

I put a dent in the top of my redwood L-00 in the same spot in the same way. I just about cried. But the guy who built the guitar was able to steam out the spot and refinish it, so that it's hardly visible now. I think you feel ok about denting and scratching some guitars, but with others, it hurts when it happens.
