First the rosette material taken from remnants of the back....

That is the piece of practice redwood laying on top....

Next, the KAERT laying on the BRW to cut out the rosette material...

Then the KAERT used to router out the actual Italian Spruce top with the BRW material glued in place...

Thanks for viewing

Default Now for something completely different

Here is a picture of an amazing waterfall bubinga guitar that Steve and Ryan displayed at Memphis. I just wanted to post it here in case anyone missed it on the Memphis threads, because it is simply amazing....

Wow Tom I cant wait to see this rosette come together, its going to be special! I am lucky to be attending a presentation Steve is giving in my area this weekend and he is bringing the Memphis Koa SJ. Cant wait to see and play that beauty! I think when its all said and done your guitar is going to be absolutely stunning, the Brazilian is as nice a set as I have ever seen!

I don't know if I should comment on the BRW or Bubinga... Both stunning. You should request to keep the BRW cut out! Would be great as an expensive coaster can't wait to see more.

Yes, when I saw it in pics of Memphis I was Godsmacked, virtually drooling. I had recently told Mr. Wren that I thought his waterfall bubinga was the most amazing piece of wood that I had seen, and then all of a sudden, it was in second place to this piece. This must truly be a one of a kind piece. Very happy John Z brought it...did he drive it out or ship it. I know I would have been very worried to ship it or fly with it.

That is an amazing piece of wood! Speaking of amazing I had the opportunity this past weekend to play Steve's Koa SJ. It is difficult to find the right words to describe how beautiful that guitar is, not to mention the fabulous tone! I cant believe it is still available. I was so impressed with that SJ that I moved up my next commission to start as soon as Steve can fit me in, it will be an SJ! Tom, I cant wait to see this guitar continue to come together so keep the pictures coming!!

This guitar plays and sounds as beautiful as it looks. And...the pictures are great, but THIS guitar in person is even better. The waterfall is almost 3D

Some more back and forth emails last night with design and wood choices out of which emerged this as our headstock overlay. I personally find it very beautiful, hope you like it as well...It is cut from the same piece as the back!

Ryan has completed more work on the rosette as follows:

Routing the channels for the koa borders with the previously designed jig...

Bending the koa strips, one handed (at least for the photo )

Installing the koa and bwb strips:

And, the completed wooden part of the rosette (bling coming soon to a theater near you)

Yes we know it kind of looks weird with all the wood inside the rosette. This is to accommodate the KAERT which is still being used to put in the inlay.

Being a big fan of both Kinnaird guitars and Tom B'sox, I'm following this build with great interest. I'm thinking I might want to try to make one of these eccentric rosettes soon, using the KAERT jig idea, before you guys take out a patent and start charging royalties. I really like the look of that rosette!
