Thanks everyone! And since I didn't get any photos of the top in my last post, here's a shiny one for you all... |

Stellar! I love that ebonizing technique. I've done those smooth transition cut out joints before for Selmer guitars, tricky but so nice when it's pulled off like that.
That Koa is top notch too I bet jumps right out at ya. |

Ha! More like bicep... one of these days I'll have to train my left arm to french polish!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm super pleased with how the ebonizing and black neck worked out -- a big departure for me but one that I'll definitely do again! Not too much new in the past week as things are mostly hanging out and drying, but here are a couple more teaser photos as we close in on the finish line... Super satisfying to have the neck properly aimed, adjusted, and having everything hit where you're hoping! Final bits of woodwork in prepping the bridge... I should finish up the inlay and carving on the bridge today and have it glued on this weekend! |

Mike--I'm really loving this guitar that you've got going on here.
I think it's my favorite one of yours to date--great stuff! Can't wait to hear it...

That is a work of art. The amount of knowledge and craftsmanship that goes into creating something like that is far beyond my comprehension.

Thanks so much! This has been a super fun one design-wise and given me lots of ideas for future builds. And I'm pretty excited to hear it as well! Quote:
Thanks! 15 years in and I think I might be starting to get the hang of some of this stuff! I finished up some of the final woodworking the past couple of days preparing and carving the bridge. Took a bit of time to piece together this little puzzle for the bridge inlay... Inlayed and carved! Thanks again for looking! |

That bridge might be able to win something at a woodworking show, "
We don't know what it is but we awarded it 1st place." Bruce, |

I agree, the shape and inlay in that bridge are both outstanding.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the long delay between posts for this build -- once the french polish was finished up I spent a good chunk of the summer down in Arizona visiting my family and playing with my unbelievably cute 1 1/2 year old niece. It was a great trip but nice to be back in the shop and finally have this one finished up and ready to ship out. I'm very very pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to get it to its new home!
One of the last decisions made was choosing the tuning machines. With the black neck/headstock in mind we decided to go for some Schertlers. I really like how subtle they are but with just a bit of pop in the back with the brass gears... With the tuning machines on it was time to string it up! My shopmate Lenny (Daddy Mojo) was doing a photoshoot for one of his guitars and I was luckily able to jump on board and get a couple shots in as well... I really enjoyed this build and am excited that it pushed me into some new directions that I'm looking forward to exploring some more. Thanks to you all for following along! |
