Lightbulb Would you buy a new guitar?

Hi all,

Let's discover where we stand on purchasing preference:

#1. Would you buy a new guitar?

This is not a public poll, so no one can see your votes, but feel free to chime in with replies.

There is a poll for if you would buy a used guitar, also.

Only 1 answer please.

New or used would not be much of a factor for me. If the “algebraic” sum was such that I absolutely loved the instrument AND I was in the market to buy, that would be the one for me!

I would love to buy a used guitar from me, I treat them with respect and look after them best I can.

What Scotso said. Running through all the guitar purchases I can recall making in my life (including electrics and basses), I'm counting 11 new guitars and 8 used ones.

There are advantages to buying new, and advantages to buying used. The only absolute rule I have is that I won't buy a guitar I can't return unless I can play it first.

Have bought new and used in the past. Although I would probably look at used first.

You are missing an option. I would buy used or new and have purchased used or new in the past. Though buying used is my preference. Why spend the extra money when there are so many well cared for used guitars, especially in this forum’s classifieds. Some would say the warranty, but I’ve never had a problem with any used guitar I’ve purchased since I’ve been playing guitars in the last 12 years.

That's the one I was looking for too.

I would not, could not, in the rain.
Not in the dark. Not on a train,
I do not like them with a goat
I do not like them on a boat
I would not, could not in a car
I will not buy one near or far
I do not need a new guitar
So a new guitar I will not buy
And that's my answer, OP guy

Mostly because I just bought a new Waterloo last week...

Like most I chose option 2. But there are conditions. First condition is cash flow. Currently retired and on fixed income. If the cash were there, I'd look at a few new models. Don't think I buy a new Les Paul. Unless it's a custom shop. Even then It'd be after a long search. i doubt I'd ever buy online again. Although the 000-28 I want. Is in no shops around here. Maybe St Louis. Haven't been very far from home since Sept. 2019.

Lol - I'm the opposite! Only 3 of my 35 guitars (owned over the last several years) were bought new! But because I have bought new and I'd buy new again in the right circumstances, I had to choose that option. Although I almost always much prefer to buy used.

Depends on the manufacturer...
