#1 son is a left handed bedroom player* and retired professional dancer (who now teaches with my wife in the family dance school), #2 is a professional french horn player and semi-pro bassist. They can have their pick and I guess sell or distribute the rest at their convenience though I have a plan to buy a very nice dread and arrange to have it converted to LH and refinished for #1 when my time comes but that may or may not happen. I hope #2 will take the Brian Eastwood Custom at least as he does play a little guitar but it's their call and I won't be looking over their shoulders.

All of my guitars are insured with USAA. My wife and kids know what to do with my guitars when I head for the dirt.

So... how about you others who are elders in the AGF (I'm 75)?
Dammit Bill, I was going to offer $500 for the Authentic. Why'd you have to go ruin it? At least I can cancel the paper. Don't need the obits now.

I suspect I'll have to fight over it with the general public at Gryphon now.

I just have a valuation note in each case. I plan on floating out to sea.

My wife and daughter will get my Larrivee C-10 and Martin D-21. The others, assuming I haven’t disposed of them already, I’d like to see donated to deserving youngsters who can’t afford a decent guitar.

I have said to my wife that my son (a guitar playing musician) can have them. But, if he doesn't want them then ask him to sell them for her. He is knowledgeable about these things and would get what they are worth. If we both pass then I have complete confidence my daughter wouldn't think twice about them going to my son.

The kids can have whatever they want, with instructions to sell the rest. My son plays some and appreciates what I have (and knows their value). Daughter #2 played for a little while but with a young family has no time topics it up again for some years. Daughter #1 plays no guitar, only piano.

I have a database with details on each and also have an unofficial "will" on the computer which discusses my desires and will have instructions on the best way to sell what is left over. (Yes, there is an official will too.)

Not going to be my problem. I have 4 grandchildren and my daughter (and her husband) are music teachers and play a little.

I'm just glad I'll be gone when my wife finds out what I paid for the Lowden.

Hopefully another 50 years before I croak...so my guitars will probably go to Keith Richards.

A friend and I have an arrangement whereby we each have a list of our guitars, amps, etc. and upon our demise the other will follow the directions for their dispersal or sale with the proceeds given to our spouse. We also gave each other their choice of one of our guitars.

We both think that this helps surviving family with this task and is a nice way to handle this with someone who is knowledgeable about the instruments making sure that the best deals obtained, etc. And you get a guitar that you've played and admired as part of the deal. Win-Win.

Whoever wants them. I don't have anything earmarked for a particular person in my family. Maybe one of the grand kids will want them..

Default A plan

I’ve got quite a nice collection of guitars, some banjos, and a couple of mandolins. With the exception of a National, a Martin, and Vega banjo all are from individual luthiers. I have an arrange with John, the luthier who lives nearby and who has made three of them, and my partner Susan to distribute them upon my demise. The only stipulation is they have to go to players. Most are young people (a grand niece, the son of a former student, daughter of my best friend, etc.). The only stipulation is that they have begun and intend to continue their musical instrument journey. I love the instruments so much I couldn’t stand for them to gather dust while I turn to it.

I already gave some to one of my son and youger brother (when he retired too) some years ago.

Hopefully, some grand kids my begin to play... someday...

But I will certainly sell most as I could need some money someday...
