As others had said get out and play as many as you can. I know this is not easy at are current time with Covid 19 going on but it is truly the best advice, by doing so you will come to know what you really are looking for tone wise in your new guitar. best of luck with your quest and most importantly enjoy the experience.

I've been using my Martin X1-DE guitar a lot recently (purchased new for $460 when it was on sale from $600) It has laminate back and sides, but it really sounds amazing. My friend who is a professional full-time musician was really impressed with the sound too.

I am still going to look around for a higher end Martin, just to compare it to mine. If I find a good D-28 that I really like, I'll update my post here!

You need to go out and play them, there are some deals to be had in the used market if you know were to look, be patient enjoy the ride when the right come's along you will know.
