Default How in gods name do I finger this chord????

Emaj7add6

This is the first chord in the tab for Lenny by SRV i've started looking at...

https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab...nny-tabs-25040

My question is that Emaj7add6.... How are you actually supposed to play that 0.0 ?

BAHAHAHA!!! Those pics..... that's what it actually feels like too.....

Ok so i've been having a play around with it.... the best I can come up with is fingering it like this...

XX9899

It's basically the chord without the E bass note on the 5th string it's the best I can do.... good thing it sounds extremely close to the original recording, so I have managed to pull something positive out of it after all XD

It looks confusing because they've labelled the chord as Emaj7add6 though on the tab it's been transposed down a half step & it should be prefixed as an Eb chord.

Ignoring that for now & assuming it is in E the logical way it seems for me to play it and more importantly in the context of the song is 0-7-9-8-9-9. i.e the bass E is open & you bar your pinky on the 2 treble strings, 9th fret, easy.

PS 0-7-6-8-9-9 works too.

given (as in your tab) it's played in standard tuning dropped a half step (EbAbDbGbBbEb)

First chord is:

Gsus4/Bb (among other possible names)

It looks as though it's not even the highest rated tab. Did you check the others?

I think your PS is the correct way to actually play it.

But, if you try to play it the first way, how does 9th fret, fretting work. In the PS version, you can barre the b and e strings with your pinky on the 9th fret, but how do you do the barre on the b and e AND fret the 9th fret on the d string... while still fretting the other two strings? You can use your 3 other fingers to fret in the PS, second version of the chord, but I don't see how you do it in the first version.

If you just ignore the high D# for a minute (and for the sake of clarity ignore the down step tuning) then all you are doing is playing a Emaj7 chord. Play that for a little while and then what you will need to do is barr with the pinky the first two strings. It's not hard for me becasue my pinky finger can bend easily like that but for many people that one could be a struggle.

That's Hilarious, Bob! Sometimes I think poorly documented tab needs this fingering approach.

I had one of those cool finger ports installed that lets me play all kinds of jazz chords!
