"Of a fake dead crow and mayhem in the murder"

Best subject line in all of AGF history.

Yes, and it’s not even close.

I just finished a novel where the author described the behavior of crows when one of them is killed. The author purported that crows (like elephants) are attracted to a dead member of their murder (double entendre entendre'd), not frightened away.

This is interesting:

https://www.audubon.org/news/think-c...l-you-see-wake

"They also flock to members of their own species after death in a behavior that looks like mourning, but which scientists suspect is closer to reconnaissance."

(the article also includes some interesting tidbit in re necrophilia, but I'll leave that to you to read independently.)

Aside:

I had a "neighbor" at a marina who was really, really tired of seagulls pooping all over his boat. He put one of those large plastic owls on a piling in an attempt to scare them off. I would take pictures of seagulls standing on the owl's head and pooping all over it and send them to Jay (no pun intended, that was the guy's real name).

I explained to him that in order for the seagulls to be scared away, they had to be the usual prey of owls, which of course they weren't.

On the plus side, I never saw a field mouse on the docks...

I watched a show on crows. They’re smart enough to make tools to help them accomplish tasks. The show had video of a crow going after prey that escaped into a hollowed out tree branch or the like. The crow found a piece of stiff wire on the ground, bent it into a hook, and used the hook to scoop out its next meal.

I read that when a crow dies all the other crows gather around it.

This is not grieving funeral type thing, it is so can they find out what killed it, so your probably fake crow would have to be quite realistic, so smell would be important, as this must be their food sensor - being primarily carrion birds.
