Default Incoming Bagnasco&Casati 1930 OM-42 replica

This project is very meaningful and incredible one!

In the Great Depression, C.F. Martin & Co. developed ‘OM’(Orchestra Model), one of the Iconic Models in the steel-string guitar history. 11 Prototypes were built in the late 1929 and the official production began and released the guitars in 1930. Style 18, 28, 42, 45 and 45 Deluxe were listed in the lineup. However, a very limited amount of the style 40ish OMs was built due to the economic crisis. OM-42 became the most limited Pre-War OMs counted because they built only 2. We’re trying to replicate one of the originals with the owner’s permission.

Starting with another old growth BRW set from 1940s

The same spec and size as the original rosette

I can't wait to see more from B&C!

Cheers

Alan

A California collector I will call Dave O. Had the better of the two original OM 42 guitars. It was sold and he started looking for 1930 OM 45s. I played them both. One was good; the other was great. Tony McManus came through town and played it. Next time I saw him he asked if my friend still had it an declared it the finest Martin he had ever played.

No was my answer. It was sold to get one of the 14 1930 OM45 Deluxes which I didn't get to play, only to hold. Dave never showed it to me after he bought it.

Last time I talked to Dave O., he had two OM 45s again.

Hi, M Sarad

Thank you for sharing your experience with those original OM-42s.
I don't personally know the current owner or owners of the OM-42s. We are so thankful that the current owner is allowing us to do this project!

Sounds awesome to know how Tony McManus declared~

Cheers!

Alan

This one will be progressed more after 1937 D-28 Replica. B&C has worked on a few stuff though.

Full shot of BRW Back

The rosette has been done.

The braces have been glued to the top so far.

Slow but it is going OK~ More photos later!

Cheers,

Alan

Alan,

Did you notice the grain spacing on the original top? Its reversed, compared to today's [standards] of placing the narrower grain lines in the center of the top. The original's top, pictured above, has the wider grain in the center.

I've seen this done on countless vintage martins and Gibsons yet players might freak out if its done that way today. Oh, how times have changed ... I bet that old OM sounds fantastic though.

Indeed~ So hard to find these with proper documentation. But BRW on your original 1930 OM-28 must be a lot better than these~

the woods aren't as high quality. But I'm satisfied in the Martin department until forever I think!

Beautiful work from these two, as always. Thanks for sharing the build process with us.

Andrea and Alessio are good friends. I try to visit them whenever I'm in Italy and I've had the pleasure of welcoming them and their families into my home here in the States.

John, I Can't agree more! Great folks with amazing craftsmanship! B&C also did a fantastic job on a replica of your Banner SJ!
