IMO the best advise being given and as you stated, play a bunch as many (as you can and don't be in hurry)
I probably played in the neighborhood 100 Martins and Taylors, over several years before buying my 810 ce.

Nice to know. The local store is wondering if I will ever buy anything. How many years?

The least expensive non-electro I could find on Taylor's website was the 317 at $1700.
That’s what I see as well. Part of the reason that older 714 appeals to me. Non-cutaway, with a Baggs add-on pickup being the only electronic mod. It would probably be similar to my 000 with the K&K Pure Mini I installedif I amp'd it at all.

Just one more thought. Be aware that the Taylor expression p/u system has gone through several changes over the years. Opinions vary regarding whether these are good systems. If you are looking at a Taylor with the expression system, best to play it through an acoustic amp and see how you like the sound.

My main recreation when I’m working (Corp Pilot) is finding guitar shops around the country. As many small private shops as I can find, and I have played some amazing stuff that sends me into a full blown GAS attack at times. Mostly I can escape with my wallet intact, but not always...lol
