I have to ask. What does "nonsitka top" mean?

in 1953
...in 1953 Martin used guitar tops that were not sitka spruce but there are no records of what they were. CF Martin III stated in an article that englemann was purchased/used at this time but many believe some of it was also adirondack. many call these 1953 guitars "mystery tops" bc there is not way to confirm what type of spruce top was used. usually the appearance of the spruce is pretty obvious whether it's a sitka or a nonsitka/"mystery top".

The Mystery top thing is very interesting! Do you know if there’s a method to determine the wood? Anyway, Bump!

the eyeball test
that's really it. if you put this guitar next to one from the 50's with a sitka top they don't look the same. it has a more even, buttery color to the top. sounds different too...better, IMO.

the neck profile is
a hair thicker than other 50's Martin necks I have played and does not have much if any V to it. feels really nice.
