No we haven’t Ed - mainly because we don’t have a zero clearance insert for that blade. That’s a good idea though, and it would definitely be quicker and more precise than the hand saw. Up until recently we have only done a smattering of custom purfling jobs, but as this has become more of an area of customization, we might take your advice. Thanks.

Of course why would someone just want one Maple guitar? Here’s the CS that’s coming along as well.

August 14: Just to let you know we’re still here and working on our game, here’s a picture of some stuff that you’ve never seen before.

Back in 2010, Steve and I took a trip to the Florida Keys wood prospecting. We came back with some really cool “domestic” wood that can only grow there (at least in the continental US). One of those acquisitions was some Jamaican Dogwood also known as Jamaican Fish-Poison Tree or Fish-fuddle. This extremely dense wood is very pretty with golds, pinks, and browns, and it’s what you see the fretboard made out of here.

Also, we have used a Golden Texas Ebony as our bridge to join this all-American wood instrument. So for those keeping track: Sitka, Koa, Cherry, Jamaican Dogwood and Texas Ebony. We have used Honduran Mahogany in the neck, blocks, and linings because we’re not being sticklers about how this developed, but a pretty cool collection of woods. I bet there’s something here that’s new to everyone.

That is super cool...just the names of the fretboard wood are cool. I remember on my SJ, we had something from every continent with the exception Antarctica. Pretty cool.
