This 10" JBL powered subwoofer is on sale right now for $350.

I own this 10" powered subwoofer from Presonus ($400) and it works well:

Ok, first - are you using this set up for recording (that's what this section of the forum is about)?
If so, you should be using an audio interface, not the computer's built-in soundcard, which is not made for music recording (you will not have zero latency monitoring option and the A-D-A converters are not high quality).

What speakers are you using? The normal setup would be stereo output to the sub, then left and right speakers hooked to the sub.

Also note that introducing a sub in a typical home recording 'studio' requires a fair amount of bass trapping to ensure a balanced sound. Unless you are mixing dub-step or hip-hop/dance music, you probably don't need a sub as long as you have main speakers capable of frequencies down to the 40-43 Hz range.

If, on the other hand, you just want to hear music better from your computer (not recording) using small computer speakers, there are some full system options that will be more balanced than adding a real sub.

My music:

2017 Taylor 114ce-N
2012 Taylor 310ce
2011 Fender CD140SCE
Ibanez 12 string a/e
73 Epiphone 6830E 6 string (made in 71?)

72 Fender Telecaster
Epiphone Dot Studio
Epiphone LP Jr
Chinese Strat clone ($25!)

Kala baritone ukulele
Seagull 'Merlin'
Washburn Mandolin
Luna 'tatoo' a/e ukulele
antique banjolin
Squire J bass
