I love the 90's Advanced Jumbos. They were the proverbial cannon's.
But those medium gauge days are over for this 61 year old.

I like the 12 fret blues boxes.

If I could squeeze in two for my final pick... Gibson J-45's.
One with rosewood, and an entirely different animal, the TV model.

Hi Wade,

I'm a J 50 guy now. I'm thinking it's really comfortable to play; the short scale works great for me. The tone has a fine thump, and the high end sounds clear.

I like the new LG 2s--and a lot of that is that they put me in mind of my old buddy's B 25n, which was the first steel-string flat top I ever played.

I've not played one of the modern Smecks. But I've played an old one that was a dandy.

I've only owned a J50, J45, B25, LG0 and LG2. By far, the J45 True Vintage I have now is my favorite followed by the LG2 and the J50. The ladder braced LG0 was a nice guitar, but I had to choose between keeping it and the LG2. I kept the LG2 and think that was the best decision. The only one I have now is the 45TV, and it is by far the best Gibson I've ever played.

My favorites continue to be the older mid 1940s LG-2s, 1950s to 60s J45s and of course my Gibson L-C Century from 1934.

I have owned a few in the past; SJ200, CJ165, J185 Koa Custom, J35 and AJ. Of those the only one I would buy again is the Advanced Jumbo. I'm not a fan of short scale guitars generally, and Gibson short scale in particular. I suppose I have always gravitated more toward the Martin tonality and, despite my poverty-induced modest collection as it stands, I have owned several Martin guitars from 42 series to 15, plus a couple of CEO models.
The Gibson AJ is probably as close to a D-28 as Gibson can get, which may explain why I like the model so much.

J185 New Vintage
J45 Custom (Zebrano)
Hummingbird New Vintage & Custom (KOA, Adi).

Have owned all 3 in different iterations. Loved them all, but kept the J185 New Vintage as my 1 remaining Gibson acoustic.

Have visited and met the folks in Montana as well. A good group!

Based upon the best Gibson acoustic I've ever played, the J-200 is #1 for me. Next is the J185. J-45 is third.

Someone should ask the same question about Epiphone......
Lol. Yup, I agree on the epiphone idea.
I have the Ej200sce, AJ220sce and I've ordered the hummingbird pro. I really love them. I I've put bone nuts and saddles on them and Good strings and they're amazing.
So I guess, based on this I'd have to say my Fav 3 Gibson's would be Aj, J200 and Hummingbird, all of which I've played.

If we're talking all-acoustic here:
  • Super 400 non-cut
  • Super 300 non-cut
  • L-5 (post-1935 Advanced) non-cut
- and as for the ones you gotta plug in:
  • ES-5 '49-54 (four-knob/P-90's)
  • ES-150 (post-war 17"/P-90 - a true dual-purpose acoustic + electric)
  • '69 Crest Gold (BRW w/mini-buckers)
- and the ones without soundholes:
  • '61 LP Custom (final edition single-cut: 3 PAF's/"gold-dome" knobs/Slim-Taper neck)
  • '63 SG/LP Custom (in white - arguably the classiest SG Gibson ever made)
  • '66 EB-3 (the "Jack Bruce" model)

Yeah, but it’s fun. This thread is two and a half years old, and since then Gibson has come out with a number of different models.

So how about it, AGF’ers - what are your three favorite Gibson models THESE days?

I'd be happy with just one outstanding SJ-200 in Vintage Sunburst please.
