Burton earns some F's on this one.
Flowing, form following function, fearless, finesse, and freaking fantastic, come to mind! |

This luthier thing is easy. Simply manipulate wood using sheer will, The Force, and a little artistry.
All kidding aside, I think he used magic to create this neck block. This is crazy attention to detail! The carbon fiber reinforcement and the compound curves. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one coming along. Burton is a true master.

Additionally; any luthiers in the group want to hazard a guess as to how this (the concave/compound curve on the upper bout/neck) was done on the original Martin renaissance guitar? I suppose a ton of experience, patience, practice, etc.

Ha ha, well I am not a guitar genius, but so far non of those pieces look like a guitar to me yet!!!!! I know eventually I will recognize something...just the blocks are way cool.

Way cool neck block--a piece of art in and of itself.
It looks like some sort of manta ray spaceship prototype!

That's several photos of the neck block being constructed, and all the photos are of the bottom. Looks like a mortise and tenion neck joint, and I don't understand the CF reinforcement.

I'd guess that the original Martin has a neck block essentially the same as the front 3 or 4 inches of the block Burton has constructed, other than the Martin probably has a dovetail joint. The sides were then bent and glued to the block, and in that transition area the sides are not perpendicular to the top or back, but warp into the taper of the neck heel.

See post #1: Pic of the Martin Renaissance guitar on which we based this guitar.
