Default Zoom use

After you have the settings set right, and there are many tutorials out there, here's a tip I found useful. The main issue with zoom, even with all the optimum settings, there is still compression going on, so I got a brilliant idea (for me) to insert a compressor of my own between my mic and the computer input. Last night I set the compressor for a very fast attack, a very slow release, a high ratio and a low threshold. Basically squashed dynamic range. It gave me much better sound overall than the Zoom compression did. The Zoom program did not recognize any peaks from either the vocals or guitar. Everyone at our virtual open mic thought the sound was very good.
