Solid state wins...
...and it's also the cheapest.
And as we're on the subject... ...you know what to do, take the Pepsi challenge.

Well, I'm glad that's finally settled once and for all.

I have an analog solid state amp from about 1983, or so. Love it. It does need a bit of care from a tech, now, though.
One of the cool things about mine is that I can mix the clean and overdriven channels. The bigger Roland Blues Cube amps have that feature too.

I remember that video caused it's share of consternation on the various electric guitar forums when it was first released. I have the little brother of the chosen solid state amp, the Blues Cube Hot, which is a 1x12, 30 watts and it's overall my favorite amp ever. I had a Peavy Classic about 40 years ago that was an awesome sounding amp loud, but you had to REALLY crank it up to hear how good it was. And I had an early Blues Jr that I also liked loud, but not as much as the Peavy. But I like the Blues Cube almost as much as the Peavy loud, more than the Blues Jr loud, and waaaaaay better than either of them at the more civilized volumes I play at these days. It's just a great sounding amp.

Interesting and entertaining, I have grown accustom to Andertons quirky humor,. Pretty much lacking in actual informative value . Except perhaps to at least try a Blues Cube . Although I have pretty much decided from now on it will be heads and cabs

I own a solid state, hybrid tube, and tube guitar amps. Each has their place. If I'm recording late at night I have no issue using a Fender Mustang Floor that is connected to a pedal board. Most of the time we're using a Fender Supersonic 22 which sounds nice at reasonable levels or fully cranked.

I went from a Blues Jr to the Roland Blues Cube and I'm really happy with it.

I own three nice hand wired tube amps.
I guess I'm missing out. |

I'm sure you are NOT missing out.
I switched for for the reliability thing, I had just spent a lot of money on repairs for my BLues Jr and liked the Roland so I went for it. Nothing like a great tube amp! |

Those guys are always fun to watch! Music and tone is such a personal thing and I rarely rely on other people's opinions, but it's still fun!

Interesting to see that SS is making inroads. My go-to amp for more than 20 years has been an old BK Butler Tubeworks hybrid amp with a solid-state power amp and a Tube Driver 12ax7 preamp in front of it.
It's 100w rms and I really almost never need it higher than about 50%. I'm using a 1st generation POD, with a compressor in front of everything and it is quite convincing. I also replaced the worn-out stock speaker with a Celestion V30. One other nice thing...it only weighs about 25 lbs...I'm getting too old to be horsing heavy tube amps around when I gig, and these things are as reliable as a hammer...and LOUD when it needs to be.

I always enjoy the Anderton's stuff. These guys know TONE and all of them are pretty impressive players. The fact that they don't take anything too seriously only makes their videos better IMHO.

That is all well and good. But I am sticking with the tubes.
