Default Guitar humidifier!!. Help!

Hi!!. I really want to keep my guitars in great shape. What humidifier can you recommend to me that helps with dry and wet seasons?. I read horror stories of humidipack from planet waves. What can be a good substitute to this product?.

Buy a hygrometer.
Monitor your humidity so you have some idea whether you need to humidify or dehumidify, or do nothing.

Get a good in-case hygrometer to monitor RH...then use Humidipaks when necessary.

Default Humidification

Let us know what part of the country you're in, if you don't mind.

A whole house system isn't as expensive as you might think and can really help things overall, depending where you live. I put one on the house we had in Chicago and it was great in the wintertime. They are an easy addition to your existing furnace and require only annual maintenance. The rH control can be placed next to your thermostat for convenience.

You guitar case does more to moderate rH than you realize. All of that foam has lots of air pockets that hold/release water vapor very slowly.

As far as in-case humidifiers, I'm one of those who will NEVER put anything with moisture in the soundhole of a guitar. They may only leak every 1 in 1000 uses, but if you're that 1 and it's your high end custom guitar, that's no consolation.

I've been using the "sponge in a soap dish" approach for decades and never had a humidity related problem. Last year I switched to water beads and they needed less frequent attention than the sponge, so that's my new system.

I also have wireless temp/rH sensors on my guitar cases so I just have to scroll through the remote display to see the levels in the individual cases.

There are lots of threads on this subject, and as many opinions as posts, so do some reading and decide what works best for you.

Just my less than humble opinion, but you did ask.

+1 on the soap dish method. One in every case during the winter. I have an inexpensive hygrometer in the guitar room. The problem in the summer is getting it low enough.

I have given thought to the smaller hygromters that fit in the case and use silica packs when it is to high.

Oasis humidifiers work great. Use only distilled water when filling.

Pretty much the same here. I cut a kitchen sponge in half and put two or three of those (dampened) in a sandwich baggie that I've punched holes in. Placed under the headstock. Depending on the dryness inside the case, you can squeeze out more or less water from the sponges.

And I don't need an exact humidity reading, so I get the super inexpensive mini digital hygrometers like this one - one in every case. It's a good idea to also pick up a batch of those "button" batteries as well. (They also fit in most tuners.)
