Smile Taylor 514ce-n

Wasn't sure exactly where to start this thread so I did it here.
Got up this morning with every intention of pulling the trigger on a
214ce-n from Zzounds. As of last night, the guitar had been available.
This morning it had sold. Unbelievable. So, not really knowing what
to do I shuffled off to work.

My coworker asks me, 'So did you buy your guitar?'
I said 'Nah, somebody else bought it.'
She goes, 'Well, no offense, but I think you just need to
go ahead, bite the bullet, and get the guitar you really wanted.'
So I said okay and put the order in on my break.
As someone from these forums once told me, 'Buy expensive
and cry once.'

So it's out for delivery either Monday or Tuesday.
I'll post pictures and soundclips in this thread as soon as I can.

Awesome. Congrats to you! The 500 is a great series, and the expression system is fantastic.

Congrats on the new nylon string Taylor! Did you order it from Zzounds? I can't wait for the pics and your review. Happy waiting.

I did indeed order it from Zzounds. I know they are a bit pricier than some of the
better options such as Guitar Rodeo and Wildwood Music, however due to my financial situation currently it is easier for me to use their monthly installment plan.
To their credit the approval came through extraordinarily fast and the instrument
shipped the same day. According to the tracking from FedEx it looks as if it
should be out for delivery tomorrow sometime. I am about to burst from excitement!
I'll keep you guys posted!

Sounds like everything worked out ... all you need now is the guitar and some pics for us!

Well, it finally arrived today. I really suck at taking pictures but here
are the images. I don't have any way of recording properly until
my audio interface arrives but I'll post some sound samples up soon.

For anyone who was interested in a sound clip I recorded of this
instrument through the computer, you can check out my test recording

Thanks for the pics and the sound clip. Nice playing! What kind of strings are you / will you be using?

Thanks Dru. I'm new to recording so all of my own compositions really need
to be polished for performance as do my covers like this one!
I'm not sure since I lack a lot of experience with nylon strings.
I was considering trying out some D'addario EXPs Extra-Hard Tension.
(EDIT: I'm currently using the strings
that came with it. When I get cash I'll change them out.)
Do you have suggestions?

I have my eye on the same guitar as well. Yes, there is about a 2 year gap here….I'm wondering if you still like the 514ce-n as you did originally? I played one at Guitar Center last month and liked it a lot but on this one it seemed the treble response was not like I would have liked it to have been. Perhaps trying different strings would put a little more zip in those trebs? I have an older Alvarez model "5006" with a split back/side seam and hole in the back from a 4' drop on concrete. The drop actually improved the sound quite a bit. It allows the back to vibrate and this thing literally sings now. It always sounded good but now it sounds great, lol…. I paid $5 for this guitar about 27 years ago. the bridge had been knocked off, pulling large splinters of top wood sticking to the bridge. It all matched up and went back into place without a sign of a problem except the two small bolts I had to use to ge bridge to hold. I love the 514ce-n and want to find a used one but they are hard to find. Anyone know where I might find a nice used 514ce-n?

I was hoping you could give me a long range opinion of how your 514ce-n has held up and if the sound has ripened any at all over the past 2 or 3 years?

I hope you are still enjoying your 514ce-n!

Thanks

If they haven't already sold it, there is a near mint 514ce-N for sale at Lane Music in Knoxville, TN. I believe they sell over the internet and ship anywhere in U.S. Call 865-357-5025 and ask for Wyatt.
