Default recommendations for wireless system(s)

My wife and I are considering going totally wireless. That means:

- wireless headset mic for her

- 2 wireless guitars

Any recommendations?

Is there a system that would do this with ONE wireless receiver that would have 3 channels, along with compatible wireless headset mic and guitar transmitters? Such a system would need to have separate output channels (to mixer) for each input.

We are open to suggestions.

Good luck getting a headset mic that sounds decent for vocals. The Line 6 mid and upper end models get rave reviews. I don't think there is any system that has one receiver that can do all 3. There are dual mic systems, but I've never seen one with instrument also. And, most of the dual mic systems I've seen are of lower quality.

I’ll give a recommendation for your guitars. The Line6 G30 & G50 wireless systems are great. Multiple channels, dependable and great range. You can use two two transmitters on the same channel to one receiver or multiple receivers and channels.

Had many different wireless systems over the year and my absolute favorite is the Shure GLX16. Rechargeable for multiple-gig readiness, compact with no protruding antennae, excellent built-in strobe tuner, dropout free performance.

As a long time wireless fan I've always liked being able to work the mic and seeing no way of doing have never tried one yet. Hopefully you'll get some good info here and I'll change my mind on them yet.

For three channels you'll almost certainly need two dual receivers like these:

Here's the mic that goes with it:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...mitter-h9-band

and here's the wirelsss guitar bodypack:

If you're determined to go with a headset then you simply buy two of the body packs and get a headset mic of your choosing.

Decent headsets are expensive and still a pita live. There can be feedback issues depending on monitor placement and with no possibility of using mic technique. Unless you are doing the sort of show where a degree of theatricality is involved I would consider a decent handheld wireless mic instead.

Shure do a 4-channel receiver which we use at the theatre and the city hall conference rooms: ULX-D Quad. Digital transmission and easy to set up. Expensive. Separate outputs for each channel, DANTE-equipped for connecting to a digital audio network (which we do).

Thank you all for your comments, ALL of which are individually and collectively very useful!!!

First of all, several of you confirmed what my wife and I already suspected: There is probably NOT a good choice for singing through a wireless headset for our type of gigs. We were hoping to ditch carrying a mic stand. Shucks.....we will keep on "dreaming on"........maybe the affordable technological breakthrough for wireless mics will happen later.....hopefully before we are too old to do this.

So we are down to guitar wireless. I had already done some research and the comments here confirmed that the upper end Line 6 and the Shure GLXD 14 / 16 are the top of the line, with other very good units by Sennheiser, Shure, Audio Technica. I used a Shure system and an Audio Technica system 20+ years ago when I used to do a lot of weekend warrior solo guitar gigs, and I liked them both.

My carry in/out got a lot easier when I put my mic stand and guitar stand both in a carrying bag together and there are bags that could carry two of each for the pair of you.

Throw them over your shoulder in one package and free your hands up.

I use a Xvive U2 for passive pickups and a NUX B2 for active pickups. Both work very well for me.

Danny,
Does the U2 sound better, but just not work as well on active pickups? Just curious why not use the B2 on everything, or does it not do as well on passive? I’m just trying to do some research on these two. They look very cost effective.
Thanks.

I have no experience with the B2 but I use the X2 exclusively and have had great luck with it. However, it will not work with an active pickup as you get a high-pitched squeal. But if you've got a passive system like the K&K it works great. I've been using for over a year, live gigging in multiple locations, busy wi-fi areas, lots of cell phone use and no issues. Very small and easy to use system. Chargeable batteries in both transmitter and receiver, small, light, no cords, awesome. Supposedly they are working on a system that works with active.

Hi Rob,

It was just timing. I got the Xvive first and used it with my K&K equipped guitars and they work really well and have no noticeable lag or tone difference to my cables. I do have active pickups in other guitars and the Xvive isn't consistent with these. So I bought the NUX B2 when it became available.

To do it over again, you are right, just buy the B2 as I cannot detect any tone or lag difference between the two.

My wife and I play every week at church and one or both of us sing a couple times a month. We both use Line 6 G30 sets for the guitars. (Fender Mustang 3 amps if we're using electric guitars and Fender Acoustasonic 150's if acoustics) We also use Audio Technica System 9 with headset mics if we're singing. It's a pain if you play and sing and have to use a handheld on a stand. Hercules makes a great mic stand - it's expensive but it's the only stand we have found that gives good mic placement when you're singing and playing. Especially true if we are playing a mando instead of a guitar.
