It has now been 4-weeks since the last oil varnish wet out on November 22nd (but who is counting?). I foresee a rendezvous with a buffing wheel on “Boxing Day”...

Buffing Wheel
After curing for 5-weeks, Bruce bottomed out the SJ’s oil varnish finish with 2000-grit and has buffed it. While the lighting on his work bench shows some specular glare, thd character of the Adirondack Spruce, the figure of the Australian Blackwood and contrasting Curly Maple purflings and Amazon Rosewood bindings have made their presence known.

Very handsome, but he shoulda used bunya for the top.
Bruce, have you ever used bunya? Not pretty, but it has an interesting sound.

Most aspects of this guitar, and any other customer involved instrument I make, reflects for the most part choices made by the person who commissions it. That said, I have never heard of “bunya”.
I said those word out loud to try to insure that I am not being made the butt of a joke. Having been around Aussies before, trust is strictly provision for this kind of potential social abuse. |

If “bunya” catches on Australian Wood Barons will be able to control the world. The Guitar World, anyway. It may need a catchier name . . .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araucaria_bidwillii The Bunya mountains and national park are close to where I live. The growth rings/grain are wide and often very weak, and looks ugly as to my eye, but it has what I hear as a bright "metallic" tone that should go well with warmer b&s. If I was having a custom guitar made, it would likely be bunya/blackwood - your nice b&s are what brought it to mind.

Neck on
Now that the neck is attached, you can get a sense of this SJ.
