Its been mentioned already, but the Peterson Strobe Clip On Tuner does have settings for capo tuning. Its got a lot of other bells and whistles as well if you are looking for something in that realm. Its a fun and great tuner to have.

"Capo mode"? That's a good one. A great selling point for something completely unnecessary IMHO. What will they think of next?

Absolutely! A bit like ‘sweeteners’ - most of which sound decidedly ‘sour’ to me.

wait a sec.........
you guys tune these things????? on a more serious note... I've got a handful of clip ons. The Snark Super Tights are probably the fastest and easiest to read clip on tuners out of the lot I have. I also have a Peterson V-Strobe 1. The first generation of their V strobes. it's ancient, (I think I bought it 1998) but still works! Deadly accurate, and great for intonation work as long as you set the right tuning mode. |

Obviously it won't be EADGBE - but you'd know that. Am I missing something? oh, BTW - I use the little clip on D'addarios on everything.

Don't know what the criticism is, but that's what I've got, which works fine. Wait -- maybe it's a blue snark. Pretty much the same thing.

That’s what I think it’s about, but as I said, I regard some of this stuff as snake-oil. I never use the ‘capo’ mode - I put the capo on, use the ‘EQU’ equal-temperament setting, and ‘sweeten’ it by ear, if necessary. The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.

The combo of the Daddario tuner and their capo also clip together so that you can leave the tuner mounted to the capo. I have the same setup.

Thanks Jaybee, but it's simpler than that - I confused by the original question, I man say you stick a capo on the 2nd fret, then you'll
need to adjust the 6th string to F sharp, the 5th to B, the 4th to E etc, what's the problem?

I don't quite get the original question either. Any chromatic tuner picks up the frequency from the vibrations & displays it in hertz with markers at each note regardless of whether or not it's capoed. It's up to you what notes you're chasing.

I think the TS is asking, if, for example, he capos on the second fret in standard tuning, he wants a tuner to do the transposition and tell him to tune to F# on the low E or just maybe just to tune to E on the E, but it's really an F#.
If this is what he is asking, some do that, but I've never used one. I always just transpose which is a very good skill to have anyhow.

I don’t get the OP’s question. I guess he wants the open E string to read "E" no matter where the guitar is capo’d. And so forth: A is always A, D is always D.
I guess this would require “telling” the tuner what fret number you are capo’d at, so it could adjust. I doubt any musicians have a need for that. Even if you don’t know the notes on the fretboard, you could still use the tuner to fine-tune each string to the closest note, assuming your guitar was in tune before you put on the capo. |
