Got a Shop Smith Mark V
Well I will be picking up my new (old, but well taken care of, runs well 150 smackers. Including the Table and band saw attachment oh yeah!) Shopsmith Mark V around next week.Any one use one or heard of some guitars built on one? I will be buying a few separate entities for routing, carving shaping etc., But I was wondering, has anyone found a use for a lathe on their guitar builds? I mean I don't know much about them.

I've had mine since @ 1980...built lots of furniture in the day, but I'm not a luthier. I still love mine though I don't use it much anymore. May again one day. Congrats on a great tool!

I find my Shop smith makes a great drill press and disk sander but there really isn't much you can do with the lathe function in guitar building. I did do a batch of rosettes once or twice using block lamination, turning and then slicing off rosettes on the band saw.
I also made a dish once. Not something I recommend! Even at low speed the outer rim of that was flying! http://www.youtube.com/user/musicfro.../4/a63uOKkEE1I Greg N
