The Blue Guitar
I am in love with the sound and form of the archtop and also have a strange attraction to Blue ones. Perhaps it is the poem by Wallace Stevens or Scott Chinery's famous project but there is something about a blue archtop that draws me in.
Am I alone in this affection? You have a blue guitar- how bizarre?! |

My wife used to have a powder blue Guild small bodied guitar. It was nice enough, we upgraded to a Larrivee and she said it was too big. So I got he a parlor guitar and she is happy, but she does not play it much.

The last time I saw them was at the original unveiling at The 20th Century Guitar Show at 5 Towns College! Photo courtesy of Rudy Pensa. I'm sure they've both faded a little bit, but haven't we all? HE

Nah, not me. I've got the Scott Chinery limited edition book, but for me guitars should be blond or sunburst (and leather should be brown) I'm funny that way!

Blue Archtops
While I appreciate the sharing of blue electric solid bodies, I was hoping to generate a conversation about Blue archtops as the original thread is posted in the archtop forum.
Blue is relatively common in solidbody color but on archtops it is few and far between with the exception of the Chinery Collection. So, what say you... Is blue on an archtop a tacky novelty or a cool option to the usual blonde and sunburst? Last edited by jtacoustic; 04-20-2022 at 04:41 AM. |

The only blue guitar I have owned is a 90's era flat top Alvarez Yairi DY-88 like Chris Smither use to play.
But Wallace Stevens also made me search for blue guitars in general and a few archtops made the cut, including the Monteleone already called out by Howard Emerson. Here are links to a few others: An interesting new blue and brown combination by Tab Brown at Dream guitars: https://www.dreamguitars.com/shop/in...ce-461221.html A few older links: https://www.finearchtops.com/for-sale/blue-siren/ https://reverb.com/item/35402997-200...aurora-archtop More of a 335 style Eastman: http://guitarsnjazz.com/product/east...-case-2101398/

The Tad Brown you mention is the guitar which got me thinking about this. I remember the Chnery Collection and admired many of those blue archtops but you do not see many beyond those.
I simultaneously love and hate (maybe a strong word) the Tad Brown. Never have I had quite the same reaction to an instrument. |

I was at the Blue Guitar Party when all the guitars were first shown. Tom Ribbecke and Kim Walker signed their guitars' labels with my pen on my back. Literally. LOL.
All fine beautiful instruments in a number of shades of blue. There was a little bit of jamming on some by the fireplace in the collection room by the fireplace. more for the tv camera than anything. One of the photos I took is actually in Rudy's auction book. We had a good laugh over that. |
