High energy acoustic music.
Artists and groups that have typically do louder high energy music, that have also done some good unplugged work. Quite often these efforts can end up being a bit dissapointing, and truely good examples can be tough to come by, so I thought I'd make a thread showcasing some of the better examples we've come across for all our enjoyment. I guess these would be my top three.
Ten Foot Pole, this nearly defunct skate punk band from the early 90's recently put out one of the best unplugged punk type albums I've come across. The whole album was great, but the guest playing by Dan Palmer made this one of the standouts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Let...OfjTIg&index=1 Get Dead has never put out an acoustic album, but they put lots of acoustic songs on their regular albums. Vocalist Sam Cook, often doesnt seem to differentiate between the acoustic songs and the regular ones, just belting the lyrics out with the same gusto regardless. That and the way he likes to load a song right to the brim with heavy lyrics definitely gives their acoustic music a unique feel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIOGUN2EieU And finally Jeff Martin from The Tea Party... I know I probably promote this guy too much, but if somebody can steer me towards anyone that sounds even remotely similar I'd be much obliged. The super dark eastern vibe, his fantastic playing and vocals, and just the sheer amount of sound and energy that he can wring out of a 12 string guitar is like nothing else I've run across. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrD4...9I_bA&index=12 Last edited by Bushleague; 10-03-2021 at 12:32 AM. |

Have you listened to Corey Taylor’s (from slipknots) 2 hours long acoustic performance?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uetFO7y8WPA There’s some covers and some of his Slipknot and Stone Sour songs. Also, Unwritten Law has 3 acoustic albums, the one titled “Acoustic” is my least favorite it’s like the least acoustic one, the “Rolling Stone Original” album is my favorite but it’s short, and them theres “From Music in High Places” which is okay, drums are kinda loud in that one. Not sure if anyone is familiar with Dance Gavin Dance, sort of an offbeat modern prog metal/ hardcore sound, but this is a really good unplugged tune from them. I would have had a pretty hard time imagining their music, and Will Swan's frantic texture/lead style working very well unplugged, but it sounds pretty darn good and retains much of the original version's vibe and energy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3-44D1O_Cs Last edited by Bushleague; 10-03-2021 at 12:33 AM. |

Another 90's punk band. One of the better tracks off of Face to Face's acoustic album.

These folks don't have a loud electric version, they just do this. But there's no lack of energy.

Thanks guys! This stuff is great, keep it coming! That Molly Tuttle Rancid thing was pretty unexpected, very cool that she did more of a deep track type song rather than Ruby Soho or something.
Frank Turner has always been an acoustic act, but he puts out some pretty good energy from time to time. https://youtu.be/F1L5zJ2afLs |

Pretty much have to mention thes guys togeather, both lead singers from hugely influencial punk bands, both great songwriters, and both working togeather on their solo careers. Tony Sly and Joey Cape.
Heres them performing at Tony Sly's last show... he died in his sleep 4 days later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LygqJ7ugoI And here is Joey Cape, playing one of Tony's songs shortly after his death. Probably one of the most heartwrenching performances I've ever come across. Music starts at about 1:20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeISJSqVrXc |

This one's pretty interesting... Les Claypool and a buddy got ahold of a couple resonators and decided to hit the road with them.

This English folk group, The Shackleton Trio, has a huge amount of energy. Guitar, fiddle, mandolin, strictly acoustic.

More Molly Tuttle, there's actually a few video's of her covering old Operation Ivy songs. Very cool, would not have guessed she was that much of a Tim Armstrong/ Rancid fan.

I'll toot my own horn.
My arrangement of Maybellene on a Guild 12 string and old Gibson L-5 bottleneck overdub. HE
