I have a Grand Pacific 517, spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and it is not lacking in bass. On the contrary, for flatpicking/folk/bluegrass, I'd characterize the bass as full-sounding without being boomy/boxy.
But the GP is a different body shape from the other Taylor models, and I would not rule out varying bass results in other shapes that are best heard in person. |

I recently played the 414ce V class at GC. The only V class braced Taylor I have played. I thought it was a nice sounding guitar and I didn't think it lacked bass, but was not bass dominant. My overall impression was that it sounded a little more "metallic" than I prefer but I don't think that's the best description. Almost like it was amplified without amplification. All in all a nice guitar.
The most annoying part was when the GC employee who was getting it down for me to play said out loud to the guitar, "I know you will be going home today." |

Same here ... I'm happily ignorant of the shortcomings of my V-braced Taylor!

About Taylor V-Class
Taylor V brace has less low end (by design) than the same model with X brace. Whether that is good, bad, or indifferent is up to the player. I owned several of the Taylor 2014-2017 models and enjoyed them thoroughly. I’ve played a number of V class but don’t own any. Being a Martin fan, you can guess my opinion.

One thing is for certain, everyone sure has a different opinion of what bass is or should be in a guitar.

Oh - you mean a guitar topic. Uh, in that case the answer is probably "No." About those V-braced Taylors... I don't own one. I've never played one. It's quite possible I've never even heard one in the real world. Still, I have strongly held opinions about them. I don't have to be logical, reasonable, or well-informed. I'm a guitar player! I’ve played several non-V class 414ce’s, and would not turn to that model if I was looking for more bass. Maybe try a 416 instead?

Well, my 324ce v class has more than enough bass AND is unbelievably balanced. It's an amazing guitar. As are my 528e and 710e...both standard braced...and have bass to loan out.plan
Maybe they don't have as much bass as some want, but they all have bass to spare. Far more than my '02 510LTD and my '03 600SPEC.
