Default Question for Jim Tozier

Hey Jim!
I just was wondering if you would ever consider offering tablature for your music?

I would really enjoy seeing how you play Pretty Maid.

I hope this kind of question is not out of line to be asking a professional player.

Thanks.
Diesel

Hey Diesel,

"Professional" means I'm making money at this, right? Hmmm . . . I'm definitely retaining my amateur status!

Anyway, I am working on TAB for the whole CD. I don't know when it'll be done . . . it's a slow process for me. But at some point, I do hope to offer a TAB folio for those interested.

In the meantime, "Pretty Maid" is in DADGAD, with no capo, if you're interested in trying to get it by ear. The beginning centers around an Am chord (x02030), and I don't remember anything particularly tricky about the arrangement. I tend to keep things pretty simple!

Let me know how it works out, and I'll be glad to give you more details via e-mail: [email protected]

Thanks!

No, Jim, strumming a C chord is keeping things pretty simple.

I for one would love to contribute to your professional career by buying the accompanying tab book. Keep us posted.

In the mean time, I'll be over here strumming on a C chord.

Thanks Jim!

Im gonna try and pick a little with this...but I must confess I am a beginner when it comes to guitar. I just love that arrangement, Pretty Maid. Simple songs like that are why I took up guitar in the first place. If I could just some day pick out a whole song like that and someday sit in front of a warm fire with my wife and kids and play it...that would be like heaven to me.

Ill be the first to line up and buy your tab book when its done.

Before anybody gets the wrong idea, my "TAB book" will be assembled by hand from computer print-outs of tablature that will be accurate in terms of fingering, but probably woefully inept at notating time values and such. It would be made available as a courtesy to those who have purchased the CD and are interested in playing the tunes, but I wouldn't charge anything other than the cost of printing and shipping for it! I'm fighting pretty hard to keep my amateur status so I will be eligible for the next Olympics!

Now, if I get a phone call from Hal Leonard or Mel Bay . . .

One more question...(you might like this one)

Im interested in buying your CD. Your website says,
"You can place an advance order for Castlerea by sending a check or money order for $15.00 to:"

Does this mean the CD is not ready for shipment? Or is it ready to go now?

Im leaving for a "desert place" soon as part of the "war on terrorism" and I would like to take the cd along with me.

Thanks

No worries, Diesel!

First off, it's not my song, anyway . . . it's a traditional Irish tune. The real (Irish Gaelic) title is "Colleen Dhas Cruthen Na Moe," and is translated as both "Pretty Girl..." and "Pretty Maid..."

If you're interested, nearly every version (including mine) is based on Duck Baker's arrangement for drop-D tuning. Before Duck did it, the tune was pretty much unknown to guitarists. His arrangement is in the Mel Bay Complete Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar Book.

Your a great guy Jim!! Nice gesture!
I'm also interested in tab for your CD when you have it available. Pretty Girl Milking a Cow is one of the most beautiful songs out there, IMHO. I'm sure you already know Jim, but for anyone else interested, Pat Kirtley also has a beautiful arrangement on his Irish Guitar CD. It is titled The Pretty Milk Maid. The tab for that CD is supposed to be available through Mel Bay sometime later this year.
Right now I'm just waiting with anxious anticipation for my Jim Tozier CD!
