Around every other week, twice on Sunday in church if that counts. Why not play with my best, the Noble.

My Osthoff SJ goes everywhere...play with friends, play on the porch, weekly lessons...durability and simple ornamentation were in the design spec. My Takamine comes out for flat picking work.

Good question Alex. I have wondered about that on occasion myself. I do not own a custom made instrument. Thanks to you who shared.

I gig with my hand built custom Dell'Arte dreadnaught as often as possible. The only time I wouldn't would be if I had an outdoor gig with adverse heat/sun/humidity.

That's what guitars are for. Why wouldn't I gig with them?

For those of us who play rather than collect, guitars are tools of the trade.
I am waiting for the owners of Somogyi to chime in. |

Wow...I'm surprized at the answers. So...I guess I'll start by saying that there's an "odd-ball" in every group..in this case me. I would NEVER take a custom to play outside of my home. That is why I have a T5. It would fit that bill for most settings. I recently acquired a new 614ce for the other occasions. It is possible that since I don't play 'solo" for money, I don't see the need to bring the better stuff. I like keeping my most special and difficult to duplicate guitars in as good of condition as possible and playing out works against that objective.

Custom instruments are meant to be played. Therefore, I play mine on gigs all the time. Otherwise, why have them?

I gig with all of my guitars. No hanger queens!
If I owned a Pre War Martin D-45, I'd gig with that too. Bill |

I play both of my Hoffman's at church and at gigs. Both are insured so why not ... and they're good conversation-starters.

There are several musicians I know of that play "out" with Ervin's guitars. If I owned one, I absolutely would too. I understand why someone wouldnt, though. Would you?

35 years ago I looked into getting getting a Somogyi. Didn't like it. Got something else. Don't regret it.
