Yes! Except the required power for one of those, being extracted from the genitals and hippocampus, is frequently not sought as a viable solution.

I find making sure the "Suck" button is turned off helps a lot.

Interesting discussion...

I am fortunate to have my own studio where it's very quiet. In fact, I built a studio at my other house back in 1988, so I have had a quiet studio to work in for a long time. So I have gotten used to listening attentively to how I play so that I am in general quite aware of whether I am playing cleanly or not. String noise has always bothered me, so as I work through a song, I am very aware of that obnoxious noise and the need to make sure it's not there.

Some noise is inevitable, but a lot of noise can be eliminated with practice.

The only time I use headphones is when I can't have the recorded sound out in the room as I record. For example, when overdubbing an acoustic part with microphones onto a previously recorded track. Otherwise I really dislike the hassle of dealing with headphones, especially with the cables. But I have gotten so attuned to hearing and learning (mostly) to control my extraneous noises before I ever record that I am not surprised by the sound I hear on playback after a good recording session.

I also don't like singing with headphones on. I need to hear the room sound of my voice to assure that I stay on pitch. When I am singing harmony to myself on a pre-recorded track, I have to leave one ear uncovered. And in that condition, the headphones are always falling off my head!

Also, I have been involved in serious guitar recording for the last 50 years. So I am pretty much attuned to the discipline from a lot of years of mistakes.

I like better a clean recording where you can hear and appreciate all the details (each string stands out individually,
small volume change for changes in emphasis stand out, etc.).
