Default 30 Guitars is excessive?

This cracks me up. A for sale listing I just saw on Reverb says selling because “according to the girlfriend, 30 Guitars is excessive”.

Just curious if the seller is a forum member, and also is there an official definition of excessive? :-)

Of course 30 guitars is excessive.

There's a thread right now in the General Discussion Area polling how many guitars members own. So have a saunter over there if you're interested.

Giving a person a penny doesn't make them rich, but keep giving them enough pennies and eventually they are.

(we don't have pennies here in Canada anymore, but the point remains)

Only if you have deluded yourself into believing that they are "tools" and not a "collection".

I have 3 "tools". Any I currently own beyond that are part of a collection. If they weren't here, I'd be perfectly happy.

Well, do you think that a million guitars is excessive?

Edit: Ah, I just looked at the ad and somehow now understand the point you were making, which I previously misunderstood. Good point! And what an odd number 29 is.

I thought you were implying that 30 wasn't excessive because if 29 wasn't excessive then how could 30 be too many.

If I feel 30 is excessive, then I won't buy that many.
Others who feel 30 is not excessive may buy that many.
So, what's the problem?

Is someone sticking their nose into someone else's business?

He was ostensibly selling a single guitar because 30 was excessive, the implication being that although 30 was excessive, 29 wasn't. That was the irony I tried to point out. FWIW either 29 or 30 both seem excessive, but that's just me...

The penny analogy means that while it is sometimes hard to establish where a dividing line is, such as rich or poor, or in this case excessive or not excessive, those lines do indeed exist. They just aren't really well defined.

So I'm on the side that for most people, 30 guitars is excessive. Just like 30 toothbrushes, 30 cars, 30 cellphones, etc. But if someone's thing is collecting cellphones, maybe that's the exception to the rule.

That's what I clued into before I made my edit. You're a wise and temperate man, RP.

Is 30 guitars "excessive"?

I'd call it a "good start"...

What's wrong with leaving the old girlfriend on the lawn?
Maybe she could become the gardener.

Excessive?

Not if you use 30 alternate tunings.
