Default NHL 2020 Playoffs (Stanley Cup)

Training camps are underway with the first round robin game to start on Aug 1! 24 teams ... 16 in the qualifying round and 8 guaranteed playing for seeding. All playing for what is being called the Covid Cup.

8 teams will lose out in the qualifying round and one of those 8 teams will have the #1 pick in the draft. Stupid! Wouldn't it be something if a great team like Pittsburgh lost to Montreal and then gets the #1 pick Lafreniere?

Go Bruins! Go Penguins!

Your teams? Thoughts on the new playoff format?

Of course I'll be rooting for all the teams to make it into their respective "bubbles' safely and in good health. After that, I'll be rooting for the Pens to make it 3 Cups in 5 years, but Sid will have to play for that to happen, and he hasn't practiced for the past 5 days due to an injury sustained in a team scrimmage.

Sid hit the ice for practice today - great news.

Pastrnak still hasn't made a Bruins practice. Guessing he needs a full 14 days quarantine. Doesn't mean he has covid but he might have had contact with someone who does.

RIP Eddie Shack. There was even a song written for him back in the '60s:

"Clear the track, here comes Shack
He’ll knock you down and he’ll give you a whack
He can score goals, he’s got a knack
Eddy, Eddy Shack"

Thanks, Dru. I didn't know of his passing. Good recollection by you!

I remembered he had a song but I had to lookup the lyrics. Shack was on the Maple Leafs team that won the Stanley Cup in '62, '63', '64, and '67. Hard to believe the Leafs ever won a Cup because it's been so long.

Game 1 starts on Saturday! Let's keep the two bubbles free from covid.

+1.

Listening to a Canadian Sports talk radio show today (Sportsnet) and they were saying tonight's exhibition games will probably be the most watched exhibition games ever ... because we've been waiting for hockey so long.

Talk was that McDavid was looking great in scrimmages.

Well, the Play-ins are underway in Toronto and Edmonton. So far today the 'Canes defeated the Rangers 3-2, The 'Hawks ambushed the Oil 6-4, the Isles beat the Panthers 2-1. Pens and Habs puck drop is at 8 PM, while the Jets and Flames get underway at 10:30 PM (Eastern).

Hockey is back!

Go Pens!!!

Default Dru

Great watching NBC air NHL games today. Doc Emrick is at the top of his game. The coverage was great. Hawks dominated, but it was nice to see and hear.
Dru, and his fellow Canadians...did CBC cover for you today?
