Default Honest review, 2 weeks in on the Martin ooo-12e koa.

Bought a Martin Mexican made 000-12e KOA a few weeks back. k

Was thinking, should a get the FLAGSHIP Mexican made OOO or the
USA entry level OOO, the OOO-16e.,

Flagship Mexican $1200
Entry level USA. $1600

I opted for the Mexican one after watching a guy review it on Maurys Music youtube.... how much he was touting it and recommending it,,

.Here is my thoughts after two weeks.

Pros
- Its a drop dead beautiful guitar
- I love the 24.9 scale length, the 1.75 nut and high performance neck width, and its Pleked fretboard. I also like Richlite on fretboards, so no complaints here.
-Build quality looks extremely good
- Very nice tone and voice ....quite pleasing really...I like its voice
- If you an amp player mostly or perform with an amp, this the Ticket! for sure
- responds well to a pick

Cons
- A Tad on heavy side...just nit picking
- Gloss finish makes wood sparkle but a tad thick
-The koa Model is a layered veneer. Has mahogany in middle of koa wood sandwich. Bad or Good ? who knows
- may not be the most projective guitar I have played...but still has the oem strings and plastic bridge pins...and the action is a bit too low..1.75m low e string.
ordered a martin truss rod to raise action a bit ...I like 2.5 to 2.75mm to let strings vibrate more

I wish I had a usa made ooo-16e to compare in tone, volume and weight.
Very curious.

Store has given me an option to send back and pony up an extra $450 if i want the 000-16e.

But, the koa is so **** beautiful to look at, and its still a great guitar even with its little faults, and I rather have the BEST Mexican martin made than the ENTRY level USA made

so
¡Viva México!

Think hard on this one.
If you are not loving the guitar now, it probably won't get any better down the road.

Can you play it against the other guitar that you are interested in?

No, no stores around, I would have to do a $450 gamble on the ooo-16e

In Hindsight,
I should have went to American Music Supply and bought them both.....and then send the one back I do not like..with thier libral return policy.

My guitar playing skills are lso limited and I am now wearing hearing aids, so this south of the border martin is fine.....it makes my eyes happy to look at ...its probably more guitar than i ever truely need.

I truly believe the entire neck joint discussion is all smoke and mirrors. I have never seen or heard anything that leads me to believe that one specific method of joining the neck to the body of a guitar has more than an incidental impact on tone. Heck, the two most resonant wood acoustics I've ever owned are a Tacoma EM9 (bolted neck) and a Journey OF-420B (removable neck screwed on with stainless steel between the neck and body.)

Back and sides dont do much so making it quiet, I dont think so and definetly not on the neck joint. As much as I am against bolting a guitar together, something wrong with that concept, thats the way most builders, even the best builders, are doing it. Neck joint has nothing to do with volume or sound.
If you like it then fine, if there are reservations "its so beautiful but the sound is lacking" you should return it now while you can. A quiet guitar is not a problem as long as you can hear it, but do you like the voice?
