For Sale: 20-year old Huss and Dalton OM - SOLD

I offer up a wonderful twenty-year old Huss and Dalton OM. It's been played a lot by me, who's taken great care of it, and the first guy, not so much. It plays marvelously, with low action and a fast satin neck, and sounds terrific. Its voice is not traditional or Martinesque, but rather more modern, crisp and articulate. It displays a naturally aged rich golden Sitka Spruce top with a ton of silking, with deep chocolate East Indian Rosewood back and sides. The inlay work on the fingerboard is a great touch, and it has a lovely abalone rosette and an abalone inlaid Huss and Dalton logo. Tuning machines are gold Schallers.

The downside — only cosmetic but substantial — is that the finish is puckered with dozens of tiny little dimples. They're not visible looking straight at the guitar, only when lit from the side. But they're there and there's lots of them, though none protrude through the finish. Like I said, the first owner didn't take great care. The other oddity - and this is actually a benefit - is that the first owner removed the gloss finish from the back of the neck, making it much easier to play.

And unfortunately, the original Huss and Dalton tweed case looks every bit its age. It's functional but not pretty. All the latches work but the handle could use replacing, something I may do later this week.

Back to the good stuff: this sweet OM has a Sunrise soundhole pickup installed that's worth a couple hundred bucks on the used market.

For all its tiny warts, this is a terrific guitar, one that I've had a great deal of fun with. If playability and tone are of primary interest to you, you should consider this one. If cosmetics are more important, maybe pass on it. But rest assured that other than the dimples, this is a good looking guitar.

Priced with the pickup, I guess it's time to dangle this baby at a little lower price. I'm now asking SOLD shipped CONUS, PayPal F&F. If you want a nicer case, I have a faux alligator skin brown TKL that I'd substitute for an additional $200. Like I said, the H&D case is fully functional but pretty beat up.

It would make a nice guitar but maybe thats a negotiable price considering the age and condition.

Somewhat negotiable yes, due to condition but not to age. I value age highly in a high-end acoustic guitar; its spruce top has opened up fully and sings ever more sweetly with age. As for the condition, its flaws are entirely cosmetic. Other than the dimpled finish, it's in great shape. And to look at it head-on, you'd likely do nothing but admire it. Only thing that's at all substandard is the case. That said, I'll listen to reasonable offers. Thanks for your interest.
