Android Compatible Mic for under $150?
I have used a Zoom iQ7 mid-side mic with my iPad and been very pleased with the results. I really only use it for dry sound samples and my own practice feedback but I've had some highly experienced musicians comment on the recording quality (not the playing!). I recently switched to an Android phone and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for portable mics that would work directly with an Android phone (Samsung S10)? I still have an iPad so can use the iQ6 at home but sometimes like the convenience of just using my phone, especially when outside the home. I see loads of reviews of mics for iOS/Lightning but rarely see Android ones.
Thanks for any guidance.

Just pick up an OTG ("On The Go") cable and you can plug in almost ANY USB mic to your phone. I've used my old Blue Yeti for just that purpose. Cables/adapters (they use both terms) can be had for under $10.

Ah, that seems like the ticket. Thank you!

I just bought a Zoom H2n Handy Recorder, and the description says that you can use it as a USB Mic. Does anyone know how to interface this Zoom device with a phone or camera?
I just found the answer to my own question for the Zoom H1N: https://www.google.com/search?ei=Oj7...oid+#kpvalbx=1

I have the iRig Mic studio large condensor mic and have found it excellent for recording on my phone or iPad. It also works with Android.

http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/2010/...t-the-zoom-h2/ The H2n doesn't have a "pause" mode for setting levels like the H2 as I recall, so the procedure is just a little simpler. Of course this technique requires a bit of investment in cables and perhaps an adapter or two and it relies on the camera audio circuitry which can be problematic. It seems like a hassle but with a little practice it's not that hard to sync external audio and replace camera audio in post, assuming you'll be editing the video at some point. Fran

So if you use the H2N as a USB mic, the audio is saved to the Zoom's hard drive and not the phone's?
Do you have to press record on both devices to initiate recording? The Zoom looks attractive for a live event where you might want the surround sound options to record the audience's reaction.

When used as an interface the record button on the Zoom is not functional, it's constantly passing data to the camera/phone/computer and recording is handled there. If the Zoom is connected via the headphone out or line out then recording can be to both the Zoom storage and the connected device and to do that you must press record on both devices. Fran
